GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYBODY, I NEED HELP I RECENTLY RESCUED A HOTPOINT 9538W IN FABULOUS CONDITION. LATER ON DISCOVERED ITS GOT A FAULT.

THE WATER INTAKE VALVES WORK, THE PUMP WORKS AND THE TIMER WORKS. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MOTOR (I THINK). AS IT STARTS THE DISTRIBUTE MODE THEN SPINS FOR 10SECS, THEN STOPS LIKE HAVING A POWER CUT. IT WILL REPEAT THIS TILL THE END OF THE SPIN CYCLE.

SOMETIMES IT WONT EVEN DO THAT AND WILL JUST SIT THERE WHILST THE TIMER PROGRESSES THROUGH THE PROGRAME TO THE END. WHEN IT DOES SPIN IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS SPINNING FASTER THAN 1000rpm. CAN ANYBODY HELP WITH FINDING THE PROBLEM.

MANY THANKS

Start by checking your motor carbon brushes for wear. If these are OK I would check that the motor tacho magnet is correctly attached. Failing this it could be the armature, or very rarely the speed controller.

Hope that helps,

Tom
