The gods are smiling on me of late, it would seem. Found this while estate sale-ing. I've made an offer and should be able to pick her up tomorrow. Lights came on when I plugged her in. I have high hopes... but that exists is enough to get started. Oh, and to my infinite delight, its a suds-saver. Now, to find one of those thin HOMART tubs. Anyone? |

...like a puppy! just called and they are still holding it for me, i've recruited a very understanding friend to help me liberate her. the newer washer and dryer flank this one. i'll try and snap a shot to show y'all. the newer machine is filled with water, kinda scary. i am thinking there is most likely some issue with the machine since its replacement is right next to it. one never knows, though, maybe they kept it because there was nothing wrong. thanks for the heads up rayjay! i'm going to have to check that place out. the father of lady who owned my house before me worked for that company, South Amboy Plumbing. i'm going to measure and see if i can fit one of those sinks - the space in the laundry room is super tight. they seem to be a bit pricey tho - $250 or so. now all i need to locate is a gas 'tag dryer. :-) |

The machine made it home with me in one very pretty piece! Many thanks to my good buddy James who was kind enough to bring his truck and help me heft this heavy old bastard out into the sun. Seems pretty certain to me that this thing was turned off in the 80's and left as it sat. We sat it out on the little ramp to the shed, and put the hose on the water inlet and plugged it in. Solenoid was a bit balky for a moment but managed to croak to life... and then we noticed not too much water in the tub ... and that our toes were getting wet! |

As Julia Child once began one of her shows: First, take a leek............ BOO, HISS, MOAN to leaks! But what a catch! I;m sure you'll force her to hold her water, like it or not! Much luck! |

So we popped off the top, and saw that the hose for the fill flume was separated from the tub, and badly rotted. Will need to be replaced. Filled with water anyway and after a slow start, the machine was soon churning away. Both speeds seem to work fine. Tub bulb is out but the lens is intact, lucky for me since I just gave away the LAST ONE IN THE UNIVERSE! (laughs). The suds return system works just fine, but the solenoid is VERY noisy. I'm most likely going to have to take it apart, and clean and lubricate, just like i'll have to do with the water inlet solenoids. There is some pretty ugly rust on the back rear of the unit, which i'll try to take care of. Also, some of the cabinet has stains from rust dripping from a pipe above, and there is a LOT of wear and hard water deposits on the lid and top. Any recomendations? Don't want to damage the finish. The serial is 232511MV. Anyone have a date? Appliance 411 says 1971, which I think is off. Overall, the machine has a lot of potential, and I'm very happy. Can't wait to start tearing in! I put up a gallery of the pictures i took today. CLICK HERE TO GO TO mistereric's LINK |

How does August, 1964 sound, instead of 1971? There are two sets of Serial codes - 1949 through '65, then the new code system from '66 on. You've got a great start of a machine there! Correct filter and softener dispenser, plus an original bakelite agitator! I love the dials on the 702 washers - so many colors, and looks great with all the lights lit up. Blue (NOT GREEN) pads and some Bar Keepers Friend (or chrome polish for me) will clean up the cabinet and tub in a jiffy. Pull the front panel off to inspect hoses, etc. That is quite the stream of water, so I am going to guess there is a leak in hose/pump area. Keep us posted! Ben |

I was going to state the same date Ben reported... You've collected some pretty snazzy machines Eric. I'll keep my eye out for a nice Whirlpool or Lady Kenmore portable for you. pad that freight fund! |
