Greetings:

As part of my automotive interests I ran across a product that will remove rust without damaging any remaining metal, paint or plastic (at least based on testimonials and examples on their web site.) Incidentally, this is the stuff that is being used on the new and now rusty '57 Plymouth that was unearthed in 2007 after being underground in Tulsa in a leaky concrete vault "time capsule."

It looks like this product would be ideal for restoring old washers and dryers that have rust issues. The electronic Lady Kenmore that Dave "Volvoguy87" is now working on looks like would be a good candidate.

I just wanted to pass this along in case it helps anyone on the board...

Andrew S.

And what about the tub that is inside of that 1972 Lady Kenmore that someone has recently bought??? The tub inside that thing is discolored. Would this stuff be good for that also???

Tub rust

Hi Charles:

If the staining is caused by rust then I would imagine that it would work to remove it.

I see this product as a potential replacement for sand/media blasting, wire brushing and sanding that can often remove more metal/material than you'd like it to. Those methods can also inadvertently damage surrounding finishes, plastics and rubber parts. This product is supposed to leave those in place and only remove the rust.

I'll bet this would be great for washer pumps, valves, center posts, tubs, hose clamps, braces/brackets etc. I believe that removing rust completely is always better than trying to cover it up or seal it in. Rust that is covered up seems to eventually reappear at some point.

Chromature

I don't catch whether this product would be suitable for chromed surfaces or not...

Anyway thanks indeed for the suggest!!

Chrome

Ciao Diomede!

Yes, it is supposed to work on chrome - see the bicycle wheel that they have as an example in the link.
