My Aunt bought her one of these machines.I almost cried when I saw the washarm and filter setup.I loaded it like I do my Whirpool Powerclean D.W. which is my everyday machine until I can find me a good K-Aid one. That machine is terrible I ran it on its longest cycle and it could not clean what my powerclean could do in normal.I hate the Filters and I started the machine when I went to bed and it runs for hours. The dishes were not clean it cant do burnt on baked beans and the Filter was loaded with junk. The Frigidare's dishwasher's have a 60 watt motor in it made by Johnson. I wonder what this has in it?The only good thing I can say about it is it is quite.I LOVE Kitcheanaid's and will get me a real one soon but I have yet to find a dishwasher other than the K-aids that can out-clean my Kenmore Powerclean system. The Pic I added is a Frigidare 60watt main motor and I just can't help to wonder what's under these new Whirlpool's when it comes to power..Should I do a cake test on this one folks?

Ooooooh, a cake test would be excellent! I hear they've done this in the labs with the HE dishwashers from Whirlpool/Kenmore/KitchenAid but would like to see it firsthand.

I'll do one in my KDS-17 just for fun too.

i did a cake test on my kenmore ultrawash.....too many times to count....and everytime it was gone with nothing left behind....dammit....when i got it was under a guarantee that if the cake did'nt disapear...this unit was free!!!

man I tried but it was always gone.....bought in 1988...and my mother still uses it today

actually i got her the whole entire kitchen under "LIMITED EDITION" ... gas stove, dishwasher,fridge,compactor,microhood,washer,dryer...in almond and still all working perfectly...eventually their going to give out soon i'm afraid...it's going on 21 years

See that's what I don't understand.............Those appliances are over 20 years old. None of the ones made today would last that long. But in 1988 didn't the manufacturer have the same ulterior motive as the manufacturers do today???.......as in "we don't want these appliances to last many years, we want the customer to have to buy another dishwasher in 5 years"...........That's what I don't get. Why wasn't that same logic in place back then? I mean, there was competition back then, there is competition now, what's different? I'm sure they had access to cheap materials in 1988, God knows they have access to cheap materials now. My grandma bought a whirlpool dishwasher in 1984 i think and the thing still works.

Yes, there still is competition today, but not as much. Whirlpool as elimated most of theirs. They make alot of dishwashers for Kenmore, they now own Maytag, Amana, Kitchenaid, Roper, Estate, and probably more that I am forgetting. I do agree with what you are saying though, my mom has a Maytag washer that is 26 yrs old and running like the day it was delivered. I on the other hand, have a Kenmore HE3 that is just about 6 yrs old and yesterday I noticed that while in the final spin, the delay button would give a quick flash. It did this like 3 times. From what I've read elsewhere, I think this is a sign that the motherboard is about to go out. I paid $1800 for the set. My Mom paid $550 for her Maytag. So this all come back to another thread going on right now about "going green". Ok, great, I have a HE washer, I have a Bosch dishwasher (which only uses 5 gal per normal cycle), but at what cost?? You pay big money for something to last 5-6 yrs and then It goes to a land fill, Yeah!! that's going green alright. In 1982, I had a lover, who when we met, had a Maytag portable dishwasher that he purchased in 1971. The thing worked flawlessly. In 1987, His (our) house burned down. They Maytag dishwasher lived threw the fired and still worked good as new. Granted the buttons and dial was a little melted but still worked. We ended up giving it to friends of ours because, A) we lived with them for awhile after the fire and B) they didn't have a dishwasher. And just so you know 4 yrs ago they redid their kitchen because that old finally gave up the ghost and they got a built-in model. It was 34 yrs old when it finally died.
