I have a circa 1988 Insinkerator Classic Supreme dishwasher (that came with the house we just purchased) and I love the dishwasher - but the upper basket is shot.

I have been looking at numerous websites for appliance parts, and am getting the feeling that I'm out of luck? They say they were made by Whirlpool ( for Kitchen Aid?) and that they are no longer manufactured and there is no satisfactory replacement.

What do you do in a situation like this? The edges and brackets are broken through, bent and rusted - it's not going to be repaired I don't think.

The Insinkerators were made by and like the KitchenAid Imperial and Superba models.I would try and get the year of manufacturing and do a cross referance with KitchenAid models from that period.Does this have a porcelain on steel interior?

Check your used appliance stores. The racks from a Kitchenaid 20-23 will fit just fine.

Contact Rick's Appliance on 1617 W. Harry. 265-2866 They used to maintain a "graveyard" of old appliances in case you need a motor, a timer, or maybe a upper rack.

They are a Maytag/Whirlpool dealer on the All Amerikan Maytag side of the business, plus they do most of Whirlpool/Maytag/Kitchenaid's factory service.

If in desperation you can also try Herb Snow and Son's but I warn you they are not very user friendly.

Same Old , Same Old!

KitchenAid made the ISE units and were based on the 18 and up series machines so any upper rack from the 18 thru 23 series will work. However, if you got an original 18 series rack, it could have a washarm that is smaller than the one you have. You can intechange your washarm with the older one and it should be a perfect fit.
Please don't go buying a brand new one from Whirlpool. You could practically buy a new dishwasher for what they want!
As suggested, there are many places to get them as well as on ebay. If you hit a dead end, let me know and I may be persuaded to part with one of my extras!
