He discovered this website about 2 weeks ago and signed up just over a week ago! He posted a thread asking if there were any vintage Maytags in the Phoenix area for sale and while I am not in the Phoenix area, I responded!

I happened to have an avocado Maytag 608 available AND I also just happened to be heading to Phoenix late last week, so it was just meant to be! I delivered the washer to his door and even help set it up! It's interesting that he kicked his one year old Bosch front loader to the curb (well, the garage, really).

So WELCOME Christopher and congrats on your "NEW" Maytag washer!

Kevin

BTW... here is is with his new washer!

What year?

washerlover's profile picture
Lovely machine, I'm not a huge fan of Maytags, but just saw a white one today in someone's driveway for $20. Should I get it? I hate to see these things end up in the crusher. If so, about what year is the vintage?

Thanks,

Todd

Hey Todd,

revvinkevin's profile picture
If you can add a photo or two, and or the model & serial numbers, we can tell you.

The green washer Christopher now has is a 1977 Maytag 608. They built this "center dial" style control panel until 1980 and then changed to the brown control panel with the timer on the right.

If you can find a vintage for $20, go for it! I would like to see a picture of it if you can get one? I am trying to find a 806.

Christopher and Sherri

First of all, I would like to say HI! and WELCOME! to the group.

Christopher, I know you will love your Maytag, I just got a Maytag 806 in Harvest Gold, and I love it! The old Newton made Maytags are the best!

Welcome to AW! Always nice to see a fresh face or two! I see a 806 set every so often. When I do, I'll post it to see if I can find them a home like I did recently with QSD-DAN. I found him a nice little Harvest Gold set. (see below...) I'll keep you in mind...

BTW, I have the matching gas dryer for that washer, if you feel the need. Only thing, it's in Indiana, but the price would be right!

I am glad that you got your Maytag but please tell me why you are getting rid of the one yr old Bosch.I have almost twice bought a Bosch but did not go through with instead got a Kenmore Oasis but I do not know if that was a good idea or not.I would love to get a BD Lady Kenmore but am under contract with Sears so that may have to wait but if I have to choose another then please give me the low down on Bosch. Thanks for any information.Have a great day. I'm dumbfounded why this question is even asked.

Because it's far superior to the Bosch in every way, that's why!!!!!!!!!!!

Bosch for the Maytag

washmeup's profile picture
Truth be told, I love the Bosch it is a great machine. I love the style of the Maytag I find the older ones are so simple and understated in everyway. Being in the design business I guess these are things I look for. Plus not to mention they are built like a tank and are very good at getting clothes clean. I hope this helps in answering the question?

Post# 352508 , Reply# 39   5/27/2009 at 23:20 (5,440 days old) by mixergal ()
"Yeah!....we don't replace, we add on....start that

That's true! I got talked out of giving away my GE Filter Flo when it developed a problem :)

But it's also true that you won't find a nicer bunch of folks than you will here!

Thanks for the warm welcomes!
