After a 3 month wait and another trip to Phoenix, the 1968 WP set is finally home! |

I was made aware of this set just over 3 months ago as Gordon (KenmoreGuy64) mentioned he had a line on this set during a conversation. "YES I WANT THEM" I said! He made the arrangements and then it was just a matter of timing for all parties involved. Gordon flew to Phoenix for a business trip, but also met me there and we visited the Appliance "junkyard" together (I will post another thread about it). So here they are: My top of the line, 1968 Whirlpool Mark XII pair in Avocado green with the (tacky?) wood paneling!! |

That is some cool stuff. I've never seen a set with paneling on it before. The other old Whirlpool BD on here right now doesn't necessarily betray its age the way these do. Groovy. Really happenin' in a far out way... |

Okay - that is a sweet set. Congrats! One thing I wonder is if this set was available in any color other than avocado. Certainly the color makes the statement, but white would also be nice. Love the blue Surgilator w/ chrome cap. Cat's meow! Didn't Jamie have a sister to this washer a year or two ago? |

I am amused to see that the dryer's end-of-cycle knob is in the place where the older Whirlpools used to have the air freshener bottle! |

I love this set, they look to be in excellent condition and very well cared for. Are you sure those left the factory with that wood on it? It looks to me for some reason like someone added that later. Going against popular opinion, I think the wood looks tacky. I think the set would look much better without it. |

It's a VERY COOL set and I am very lucky to now be their caretaker. It's wonderful to finally have them here and see them in person! On the wood paneling, I must admit I thought it was pretty tacky thing to do, but it is slowly growing on me! Also, that was the late 60's/early 70's! > DADoES: Thank you for the info about the dryers "speed control", I'll have to check it once I'm able to get the dryer connected. Though I find it odd they would decrease the airflow like that, but if that's the way it is... then that's the way it is! > Jim - Spankomatic, regarding your questions: #1. Click the link below, it will tell you all about it. And #2 "Who is the handsome unmarried man holding up the lint filter cover on the dryer"? Why that would be me, silly! Wow, it's amazing! You can tell all this about a person just by seeing their hand! LOL > Joe - Drewz. Estate wagon, huh? Yeah, I thought the exact thing! LOL > PeterH770: Will the machine let you use high agitate/high spin on the Gentle cycle? i will check on it and let you know! And calling Pulsator! Oh Jamie.... where ARE you??? Do you still have this washer?? CLICK HERE TO GO TO revvinkevin's LINK |

However, I'm not entirely sure how long I'll keep it. I do love it's styling, but I would much rather have one of the later BD Whirlpools with the large capacity and winged Surgilator that I grew up with! However, the blue agitator is just STUNNING!! I'm not sure I could give up the machine AND that agitator! I might have to slip a white one in instead! lol

Kenny - I don't know really - just didn't feel that I needed such a pristine set. I have a couple nice sets already, and since some of the fun for me is rescuing an ugly duckling that is worthless, these didn't appeal so much. Kevin expressed interest when I posted these originally and seems to be getting more fun out of them already than I would have. If that makes any sense.... |

I dunno Kevin - I find BOLs fascinating, but that's not the reason in this case. Had they been a white BOL set, otherwise in similar shape, etc. I still would have offered them up. Maybe it was a combination of stuff, but the "gotta have them" wasn't there. It was there in a recent acquisition of a 1965 Lady K set in Coppertone, so go figure.... Some of the Kenmore TOL machines of the past actually made using them more complicated than using a 70-series machine, especially if one wants a cold rinse, but that is not the case with this set. |

those are the Roadmaster Estate Wagons of the Wash and Dry set. So amazing. Remember kitchen carpet from that era? they would look so good on it, with a luminous ceiling overhead. |

How quickly they forget. The two-way tailgate was invented by Ford and introduced on the '66 Country Squire. Heavily advertised for years. I know, but we're all a little obsessive here.... Lovely machines. So many nice touches compared to what they make now...."Electronic sensor"! And don't you forget it! Congrats! |

The update. The washer needs a new pump because it will not drain w/o help (lowering the drain hose to about a foot off the ground). The dryer seems to work well, but may need some rollers because after running for about 5 minute develops a muted, but annoying high-pitched squeal. To DADoES: Yes you were correct about the "speed control" controlling the airflow vs. the tumble speed. The concept vs. functionality does not make sense to me... unless that is meant for ultra light and dainty things that can possibly sucked against the air outlet within the drum...??? And again... thank you to all of you for you kind comments and wishes! |
