I just saved a KDS-18 in perfect condition from heading for the dump. I am hoping to find out more information on this machine. Age, etc.... My collection is slowly building!

Hi, Christopher. I had one of those dishwashers back in the 90's. Best DW I've ever owned. Left it when I sold my townhouse in Glendale. I KNOW you will love it!!!.....Bill in Phx.....

the kds-18

is a great kitchenaid, a lot of the guys here swear it's the best model ever made by hobart. it's the first model to use the upper spray arm and has a redesigned pump and a taller tub than the earlier models. the motor is 1/2 hp. the strongest you can get. it has the heated dry that was taken away on the 19 models, and is much complained about by kitchenaid collectors.

the production date logs that i have show it was produced from 11/76 thru 10/79.

parts are readily available at hobart, pump parts at least and prob from appliance parts houses too. i generally buy directly from hobart here in cinti. when i need seals etc. but i know you can get them.

if you need help with a part i can prob help you or steer you to someone who can. i don't have an 18 model yet but have one waitng for me in akron ohio. i have 2 19's which use the same pump and motor. i recently bought a motor for an 18 off e bay for 30 bucks.

it's a beautiful dishwasher and def one to keep! superba at that! enjoy it, any questions just ask here on the site or e mail me direct.

pete

SHHHH!

Get yourself some Dyna-Mat and wrap that machine up good and tight. Top Sides and bottom and back as far as you can so you will quiet it down and insulate it better. Also, if you have the original top rack, it has a smaller washarm than what followed it when it was made. They enlarged the arm so it would wash the corners of the rack better and obsoleted the smaller arm. IIRC, you can probably retrofit the new arm to the old rack and chage the China-Guard Ring and be done with it. I will check it out and let you know for sure. But even with the smaller arm it will clean like all get out! And you gotta love the 180 degree final rinse!

Hobart vs. Kitchen Aid

washmeup's profile picture
Isn't it a shame that Whirlpool does not get it that they at one time had a great product when they purchased Kitchen Aid from Hobart? The have ruined what was once the Rolls Royce of Dishwashers! The detail and construction of these machines is Superb!

The detail and construction of these machines is Superb!

No pun intended!!!

I have to say that I have just bought a Whirlpool Kitchenaid and it works pretty well and doesn't run that long...Have had a miriad of new dishwashers of the last 10 years including 3 different Maytags (real...er...at least they were purchased from the Maytag company) the '97 Maytag probably cleaned the best and 2000 was very good as well, but the Tall Tub $ucked...I used to wash the dishes before the machine got to them and it ran forever...On Hubby's insistance we got the Kitchenaid and I am pleased FOR A NEW DISHWASHER...

BUT their is nothing like a HOBART - Superba - Nothing like making a product that stands up to its name.

GREAT SCORE CHRIS!!!

I'm going to look at one tonight - we've been playing phone-tag for three days so hopefully it's all good when I see it. Maybe I'll take a pamphlet on modifying jpg files ;-)

I saw a WP-built ISE dishwasher and a KDSC-21 (last of the Hobarts) at the Habitat store today - both in pretty nice condition but they wanted way too much money.
