My last estate sale had some wonderful items in it, but the best of all was the pink kitchen, with 1960 pink appliances that had never been used by the owner. They were meticulous people that used the kitchen in the den of the house and everything in the main kitchen was a step back in time. The owners are now deceased and I was able to buy them from the family to save them from being gutted and thrown away. I just have to install new units in their place. Sounds like a lot of work, but they are exceptional!!!!!
Here is the 1950 GE Refrigerator. They had it profressionally painted in pink to match the rest of the appliances when they built the house.............

Jimmy, I'm almost trembling. Once I'd seen this dishwasher in ads herer, I never thought I'd see one. Either post, or email me, but I wanna know the sequences for each of the 4 cycle buttons that the owners manual describes. (Back then, they still detailed each one). I really would appreciate it.

And a chrome interior oven. Who'da thunk.

That range top looks exactly like the same size Hotpoint of 1968.

Hey Bob, you can imagine my awe and excitement when I first walked into the kitchen. The owners manual details the cycles, btw, and I will see if I can take a picture of it all and post it here..........

Jimmy that is like walking back in time! How could anyone not use a kitchen over 40 years???

WE had the lower end model of that dishwasher when I grew up. IT WAS LOUD! and you had to CLEAN the plates before you put them in.
On Wednesday nites I would try to get Mom to run the thing right after dinner so I would be able to hear Lost In Space on the TV!!

I never suspected they would have made a model to compete with the Kitchen Aid.

Love that Pink!!

Jet

Hi Jimmy,

This is like finding a time capsule. What great appliances. I am not sure everyone realizes how much effort you take to save these, and the others you have found. I doubt other estate liquidators would negotiate to save the appliances when it requires moving them and putting in replacements.

I know your place is pretty full so I hope you can find room or these find a good home.

See you in July,

MK in LBC

Wow - dig that floor, blonde woodwork, tile and countertop - too bad we can't just blink the whole room out of the house! It's amazing how people don't use whole rooms in their homes, but all the better for us! Good saves, Jimmy but didn't you have a GE roll-out dishwasher in the kitchen once before - maybe a little older model?

Jimmy, thank you. And, I noticed the rinse-glo inside, the first time I've ever seen that in a roll-out. I've only seen the bol GEs.

You know I'm in love! How perfect! Does the fridge have the revolving shelves?

Beautiful; Wonderful Save

The oven looks so pristine. Everything looks pristine.
Does anybody know if the G E Dishwashers (b i's) of this more recent era had the little boomerang top down spray arm like
their Mobile Maid siblings? Never knew they used that type
of cycling system on that era of G E. Drop Dead Gorgeous!!!!

Post# 68832 , Reply# 26   5/31/2005 at 21:20 (6,897 days old) by FilterFlo (Chicago Area)

The dishwasher really is outstanding, thanks for the comments. Yes, it DOES have the revolving arm at the top of the tub, but as you know these are NOT the best dishwashers as far as cleaning goes. I tried each cycle while I was working in the house and it worked perfectly, but Jet you are right--its NOISY!. And Yes, Gansky, I had a much earlier version that I installed in my house but finally gave up on it as it was just about useless as a dishwasher. The total cycle was just about 11 minutes long, and tho it washed clean, it could not handle any type of food being left on the dishes. It just made a big mess leaving deposits on all the dishes. I suspect that this dishwasher was improved and worked better, but how much better would be a guess. Im still not sure what Im doing with all this stuff Im getting, but I just could not let it go to the trash!

Jimmy, this newer GE looks similar to the Mobile Maid I have with the ribbon impeller and similar/same racks. When the motor went out in my KDS-18, I used the MM for a while and with some altering of it's rather short cycle, it wasn't all that bad. Since it had little or no ability to pulverize food particles, sometimes an extra rinse was needed to remove all crumbs, etc. but the top sprayer would help tremendously with that annoyance. Well, everything can be replaced so why not give it a try - you may like it so much you'll want to paint the Flair range pink! That beautiful refrigerator was worth the effort all by itself!

Cool finds, especially the GE Roll-Out DW! Have never seen one like it before, not in photos and especially not in person! Glad to hear it works, if it's 100% leak-free then that's even better news!

YAY for PINK!

Those are really amazing, Jimmy. Very nice finds and I'm glad you could save them. A never used kitchen. It boggles the mind, but on occasions like this it can be nice. Recently there was an early 60s Frigidaire turquoise fridge and range on Ebay that had never been used as well. Wow.

revolving shelves

I suspect 1950 is a little early for the revolving shelves, but I may be wrong...

WOW

You hit the jack pot. Very nice collection. I have been looking for a dishwasher like that for some time. Did not know the TOL was so nice. I had a BOL growing up. I have a portable Mobile Maid like your last one & this one you have now is a better machine by far. I have a KD11 in my kitchen now that will get yanked when I find a roll out Mobile Maid. Congratulations on your find . Michael

Wow Jimmy, great finds! That's the newest GE Rollout dishwasher I've ever seen, very fun. I wonder why they never used the kitchen? When I was a kid we went out to eat three or so times a week, but we still used the kitchen on the other days.

Great finds, enjoy!

Unused Kitchens

Growing up, I had a friend whos family moved into a newly constructed home back in 64. The kitchen was all frigidaire with the flair range, fridge and dishwasher. His mom NEVER used the kitchen. Being Italian and always having big family gatherings, they had a complete kitchen setup down in the basement with her old appliances. Guess it was easier for the grandmas and aunts to move around in since it was all open space. After his dad passed away, about 10 years ago, his mom sold the house. The kitchen was exactly the same as the day they had moved in.

My sister's mother-in-law is the same way. Never used the kitchen upstairs. Everything is downstairs in the basement.

Italian's and their kitchens

I am also very Italian. When my Mom redid her kitchen the old one got moved downstairs. She uses the one downstairs for realy messy projects and when she needs an extra oven, but she also uses her kitchen upstairs regularly. If we had basements in the South, I'd probably have an extra kitchen downstairs just because I'm Italian and thought it was what I was supposed to do. LOL! Years ago I think they did it because it was cooler down there in the summertime. Now everyone has A/C, but I suspect they do it because they think they are supposed to.

Hey, I'm Italian, too! My Mom was from Frosinone, Italy. But I digress. My main purpose was to say:

"OH MY GOD, JIMMY!!" You must be living right, buddy! What a dream---to find unused vintage appliances. And in pink, no less. The dishwasher is TOO cool. Congratulations!!
