I have heard that those older ISE are really great dishwashers. You may be a little disappointed if you venture off to another brand. I have owned a reverse rack dishwasher for almost 20 years. I don't think there's a performance difference between belt drive/direct drive. There is a big difference in noise level though, and the fact that there's no belt in a direct drive, it's a little more reliable. One of the main reasons that I find these dishwashers are "curbed" is because no one cleans out the micro-filter. When this happens, washing performance plummets. Usually when the filter begins to plug up, you'll hear the pump straining to acquire water during the washer cylce. If you get a non thermostatically controlled model, make absolute sure to adjust your water heater for 140F at the tap! |

I owned a Maytag reverse rack in the mid eighties. It was the best dishwasher I have ever used. The best feature was the fact that it polished your stainless flatware. And although it had a weird lower rack configuration, that machine held huge loads. Mine was a portable, and was very sad when I sold it at a garage sale for 50 bucks. It was still in showroom condition :(
