It is time to change my dailey driver. It is a ISE TOL next to mint. I just want a change. What is your opinion on matag reverse rack, is direct drive better than belt drive and is direct drive quieter ? Might have a line on a few from a retired Matag dealer. Thank you for your time . Mike PS my all time favorite is still and always a GE Mobile Maid or its built in model.

I have heard that those older ISE are really great dishwashers. You may be a little disappointed if you venture off to another brand.

I have owned a reverse rack dishwasher for almost 20 years. I don't think there's a performance difference between belt drive/direct drive. There is a big difference in noise level though, and the fact that there's no belt in a direct drive, it's a little more reliable.

One of the main reasons that I find these dishwashers are "curbed" is because no one cleans out the micro-filter. When this happens, washing performance plummets. Usually when the filter begins to plug up, you'll hear the pump straining to acquire water during the washer cylce.

If you get a non thermostatically controlled model, make absolute sure to adjust your water heater for 140F at the tap!

I had a reverse

rack Maytag for close to 20 years, and its performance was nearly as good in its 19th year as its first.

If I knew then what I know now, I never would have gotten rid of it. Got it in '73. WC400, one of the best dishwashers I have ever known.

With a really good modern detergent like Cascade Complete, it should be unbeatable.

I owned a Maytag reverse rack in the mid eighties. It was the best dishwasher I have ever used. The best feature was the fact that it polished your stainless flatware. And although it had a weird lower rack configuration, that machine held huge loads. Mine was a portable, and was very sad when I sold it at a garage sale for 50 bucks. It was still in showroom condition :(

I have a WU600 I used to use as a daily-driver back in Atlanta. It is a DD. When the pump kicks in, it makes a sound like a pool pump!

A couple of my observations were that it was somewhat capacity restricted especially when it came to large bulky items such as large stock-pots, etc.
AND, this was the machine that finally convinced me once and for all, that the forced-air drying system of the KA's was the best drying system for me.
So, when I moved here to Roanoke, it is an older KA that got installed for a daily-driver instead of the old Maytag.

I haven't personally used a Maytag DW for an extended period of time, but for the few times I've loaded one or unloaded one, I was always impressed with the capacity. Being a KA guy at heart it will take sometime before I install the pushbutton Maytag, but eventually I'll cave in.
