So I got a call from Ben this afternoon, turns out his gf spotted an old Maytag dryer by the curb..a DE105! So we rounded up the Bravada and went to check it out. While we were admiring it someone came out of the nearby house and I asked if they were getting rid of it- Turns out it came with the house and these folks had been using it up until this week when something 'caused it not to work'. So we loaded it up and drug it home. The top could stand a repaint but otherwise it's in really beautiful shape. Anyone care to guess a year?

Re: Pull-Open Handle, instead of a Swing-Open Handle:

It is interesting for that age of Maytag Dryer, that it has a Pull-Open Handle, instead of a Swing-Open Handle/Latch to open the Door. I thought that all of the Models before around Mid to Late 1960's had the Swing-Open Handle/Latch!!!I guess if I do remember correctly that the "Halo-of-Heat" Models later on had the Pull-Open Handles, with a Magnet type of holding the Door Closed.

Congrat's "cadman" maybe you'll find the Matched Washer sometime soon as well, unless you happen to have it already, seeing how June is being for so many of the Member's with their findings, especially of the great Maytag's.

Peace and Happy Maytag Drying, Steve

older than she looks...

I believe it might be a tad earlier than 1965.

1965 was the year of the set I grew up with. '65 did not have the chrome strip at the top, and the badge was different.

Same door, however.

Another nice Maytag find! Interesting that the door is a pull-open...I half-expected to see the lever handle on this design!

Even though it has the pull-open door, I'm thinking it's a Highlander model made in the early 60's at the latest...the styling looks too 50's, IMHO, to be from this year, but looks can be deceiving...

That's just it, this style was made between 1958 and 1964'ish. The tought part of it is the model number, DE105. Most all the Highlanders from the late 50's and very early 60's had model numbers like 66C, 77C, etc. and then from that point they went to a DE 102,103, etc. which makes me think it's a little later. By 65, the small panel Highlander was just about gone and the Super Highlander with the taller panel and diamond "on" light above the dial replaced it until the complete styling change in 1966. The Highlanders like this always had a pull-open door which is a single piece of sheet metal with a simple rubber seal around the inside of the door.

I've trainned her well. She knows to look for the 'center dial', or anything that looks really old to her - ha! =)

De105 was introduced in 09/1963

This scan is from the 9/63 issue of Maytag's "Lets Talk service"

Just like Maytag - yet another model for the 64 model year...that isn't any brochure. Excellent scan, I love "Let's Talk Service" issues, my favorite is Nov. 1980 article: "Cold Water Dashes Cleaning Hopes." Leave that water heater at 140F!
