Not sure the whole story, but my brother-in-laws mothers estate was up for sale and they called me if I was interest in 2 machines, So I ran over there at 90 miles an hour, and this is what I got for $60.00...... This was given to her by her mother-in-law for a housewarming gift, they didn't get along, and she wouldn't use it, so it sat in the corner since delivery, the kids took out the shipping ring and hooked it up, it works, never been used, what do you think? Maytag...center dial...A107...014584US...the drain hose was cut off to use on the other one.....books and all.... |

the Maytag has 3 water levels...small, medium, and "normal"...shame...a few days earlier and I could have been the one to unpack it and hook it up... the house reminds me of Roberts, all vintage from the 50/60's, pank ceramic tile kitchen and bath, gold sculpted carpet and drapes, furniture and tv's from way back... the whirlpool has only one preset water level |

I was hopeing someone could tell me the years of these machines.... I was in the house around 1975, and only remember the whirlpool in the basement, and nothing else but a workbench for what I could see from the bottom of the stairs, the maytag was hidden in the heater room, puzzled about the story behind this, because the whirlpool was bought by her to use instead of the gift, and they don't look like from the same years, so to speak, unless they already had the washer from the previous home, who knows, alls I know is I have 2 new items added to my collection, and yeah, wish I got a brand new machine for my house warming, I would have been tickled pink...but none the less, mine now!...I'm excited to do some loads, but hate to get it dirty, what would a plexiglass box cost?.....I'll calm down later, right now I'm still "BEAMING".....

also, for the magic mix dispenser filter hose that had a leak, I replaced it with a dishwasher drain hose I got from Lowes for $8.00, came with the elbow molded into the end, 6 foot long, more than I needed, but allowed me to re-route the hose along the top inside and down the back of the machine, this way when I have to open the top, I don't have to disconnect the hose every time, makes you wonder why whirlpool never did this!!!...just some food for thought!

The whirlpool is the exact machine that my Mom had. When she replaced it (I was 8 yrs old), I heard her say to my Dad that "well, that was pretty good, We got that in "58 and it lasted 12 yrs, and with the six kids, I think we got our money out of it". But when she replaced it, it was not dead, it went to my next to oldest brother as a "wedding gift" and his wife got another good 5-6 years out of it. |

Congratulations on the two washers, and what great finds they are. The Maytag I would guess is from 1972 or thereabouts. The Whirlpool is definitely an early to mid 1960s model. Both look pristine Have a good one, James |

Very cool - what a great find! There was a '66 A406 in Coppertone at an appliance store in South Omaha a few years ago that had a similar story. Her kids bought it for her and she refused to hook it up and continued to use her wringer until they carter her off in a box. Her loss I suppose but the store it was in refused to sell it. Congrats on two great washer finds! |

I couldn't help myself, had to hook up the Maytag and do a few, more like ten loads, at first a little scratchy sound and within seconds smoothed right out and super quiet, you have to be next to it to make sure its running, I never seen one this silent, the agitator does not have the hold down screw, just reach under the base and pull up...the fill port on this one is near the eleven o clock position, further back than most, but the out of balance piece is centered, odd, I used a union and replaced the original drain hose, that mug is 7 foot long, I would have thought all of the hoses would have been dry rotted, the brake is tight, there's no movement while agitating, I'm just excited, never seen a new one up close and running, and that round motor is unique, only one speed, and a powerful pump compared to the newer ones I have seen, almost lifts out of the laundry tub like a rocket, and really throws the water up and over in the tub during the beginning of the spin, my DC set doesn't even do that.... as for the Whirlpool, just needed the belt tightened, and replaced the filter hose like I said earlier, clean and shiny, just needs scrubbed down inside and under the rim, they must have had iron in the well water, you can see a tint on the tub, and I always loved those filters of any machine out there..... and if I can figure out how to do videos, I will post them and let you know, we should be able to do them on here, just a thought....I wanted to save the shipping ring, but was thrown in trash before I got there, darn it, some people don't know the value, but happy just the same, who are we kidding, I'm grinning ear to ear, I hope this wears off....lol thanks for the reply guys.....and keep looking, you never know what will turn up....who knew? |

You have no idea, that giver is the most generous lady I have ever met, we are related thru the marriage, and we called her "Auntie"...she traveled the world and always sent little gifts and post cards, even to me, always a xmas card from around the world, and would tell fantastic stories of the people she met, but you can't imagine how mean the receiver was to her, and she didn't hide it either, most of the family on that side was also, but when she was gone, they were all fighting for what they wanted of her estate, that's just the way it is sometimes, so this machine is kinda special to me, like a gift from heaven, from her, to be really thankful and treasured, and added to my collection....thanks for letting me babble, there are some great people on this world and beyond, and you guys are part of it!

Should begin with an L, two more letters , then 3 numbers The second letter designates the year on 1962 through 1981 models. |

from what I gather, the whirlpool never been serviced, except for the fill and drain hoses, which was taken from the maytag, can't tell about the belt, looks OK, and the bolt holding the motor doesn't show signs of adjustment, the agitator took some strength to get the cap off and tugged alot to get it out, a little dried lint and soap scum, but that was it, either she took very good care of it, or it was built to last, the only rattle is the control panel, the clips that hold it down are weak, put your hand on top and its silent, there's no play or knocking in the bearings either....this is a little too good to be true, but it works, what can I say?..... and the Maytag, after sitting all those years, and yet brand new in looks and function, and they both sat in a basement, not musty but you know theres always some form of dampness that would cause some rusting...go figure... and you know these machines are ALL STEEL METAL, they are heavy monsters to move, even with a dolley... thanks for the info on the years of these machines guys! when you're not looking is when you find a gem, that's just the way it is on anything.... |
