I picked this up in Clarkston yesterday, another Craigslist find!
It actually somehow still works after spending it's entire life in service at an apartment complex. (Even though The inside cabinet, motor, pulleys, and frame is "rustproofed" with gear oil from the leaking lower transmission shaft seal!)
I have another trans&boot that I will install later though.
My question to the experts is how old is this machine? I was thinking around 1976? Can I tell the month and year from the serial number?

Mid-1970s

This looks exactly like the ones in the complex where I lived in 1977, harvest gold. I had asked in another thread but no one ever responded: This machine used to leave "dots" on dark clothes, from the holes in the basket. Either lint or detergent residue. I tried smaller loads, different detergents, same results. I finally just washed everything inside-out and lived with that. My aunt had a mid-70s FF machine that I'd use sometimes - same thing happened.

The ones that I took pictures of through the window of the closed laundry here had the controls on top of the coin box, but were otherwise similar. No money shot?

I love that machine, grandma has a pair of that very machine in Harvest, in summer when there is a drought I go and wash with those machines to not overwhelm our well.
Yours looks a lot better condition though

Can anyone help me figure out (or direct me somewhere to figure out) the date code on this GE?
It would be nice to have for future finds as well!
