Some will remember this pic of my storage trailer full of various Kenmore belt-drive washers. I posted it early in my membership in this fantastic club. The machines range from 1961 to 1985 models which I had accumulated in my dealings in the 1990s doing repairs and rebuilding. I was embarrased to post this due to the dirty assortment of machines.

In the time since then, a number of machines have managed to migrate out of the trailer and into my shop, the first being a very significant machine, the very washer that started my rebuilding hobby in 1990. It was the first to be reactived and has seen hundreds of loads of laundry since then.

One thing that I hadn't forseen back in in March '08 was how many more machines I would accumulate. With storage space getting tight and the trailer half empty, I decided that yesterday morning was a great time to empty the trailer and re-organize. Following are some pics of the goods. Some of these are available for sale if anyone is interested.

This is one of the reasons I emptied the trailer, to get at this 'hybrid' 1961/1972 Kenmore that I took in trade in 1992 for a gold top-line 90-series black panel machine. This machine was the subject of my first posts on this site, looking for a proper control panel. I don't dislike ANY Kenmore belt-drive machines, however to place a BOL plastic top control panel on a 1961 Kenmore 70 is unacceptable, even in my book. The machine is a curious blend of the two. I would still like a correct 1961 panel, however for the time being I am going to make the machine respectable by mating a 1962 Kenmore 70 top and panel to it, thus creating the '61.5. I have rounded-up some good stuff for the machine, including a rebuilt round motor, an NOS metal pump, the correct lint filter and housing, etc.

Here's a gem someone may appreciate...It's a 1973 Kenmore 800, model 110.7304811. I had no idea this console was available that far into the 70s. I rescued this machine from the recycle dumpster in 1994, and it's been sitting ever since. The black streaks on it are tar from a roof repair our warehouse went thru years ago, but are not permanent. The machine is much nicer cosmetically than I remembered, however it's missing the detergent dispenser bezel and lid.

Here's the main machine I wanted - a 1964 Kenmore 70. I got it from the Salvation Army in 1997. There was a Coppertone 1965/66 set as well, but I wanted this one with the thumbnail cap, etc. It's filty (as they all are) but it looks great under all that grit.

All buttoned back up for now. My luck will be that someone wants something in the very back. I moved close to 50 machines during the day. I put about 10 more machines onto the trailer, and put the 61.5, the 64 and the 67 24-inch in my holding queue for work and hopefully reactivation this summer.

Here is a 1975 Kenmore 70 - a VERY cool machine if you ask me with it's quiet pak belt and the gold Penta-Swirl which was pictured in the original trailer picture atop another 1977 machine.

There were three of these baking in Arizona back in May.

Here is the 1977 Kenmore 70 that is partially shown under the gold Penta-Vane agitator in the original trailer pic. I acquired it from Sears in fall 1990, in a sad condition. It had been used to wash mop heads, and absolutely WREAKED of nasty feet. SO GROSS...it stunk up my whole garage on warm summer days. After replacing the basket and outer tub (whatever they used to wash the mops ate the porcelain of BOTH tubs), here it is during a water test looking much better than it had. I use it regularly now.

Davek - actually that car is a 1986 Mustang LX 5.0 sedan (Mustangs are another passion of mine). I rescued it from insurance salvage in L.A. in 2004. It was at a buddy's body shop from October 2004 to April 2007 while they worked on it when time allowed.

That's a nice looking car for it's age. These cars don't age well here at all, I'm in KY and they're almost all rust buckets, the newer 89+ models were much better for some reason but I like the front fascia a lot more on the earlier 80's models. Also the 5.0 LX notchback here is SUPER rare. Is your car FI or carbed?

Sorry, I also have a slight car addiction, nice car though.

I am absolutely speechless. I don't know if I can quantify the amount of joy I am experiencing looking at these photos. However I must say the two 1970 500 model twins do take the cake. The interior shot with the gold str8 vane is to die for. Bar none that is my favorite agitator of all, especially the ones with the gold caps. Those are perhaps one of the most dramatic Kenmore agitators, especially if you are washing on a medium or small load. My aunt had one that had the chrome lid handle, but hers had a manual filter just like the 1969 500 in the other thread. That washer inspired my love of Kenmores, and my heart races every time I see one of these.

That 1964 model 70 is a knockout as well. I think this is the first time we've really seen a good photo of one.

Thank you so much for sharing these photos, especially the twin 500s and interior shot I appreciate those most.

Have a good one,
James

She's a beauty, and a fast one at that. The 5.0 is such a simple, reliable workhorse. At work we have an old Crown Vic with the 5.0 in it, it has well over 200k and the car has really required minimal repair. You're right, I guess this isn't really the forum for it :P

My many compliments though, and both the car and the collection

Well, the headlight buckets are similar to a LeBaron. I had a similar car, which I loved.

The eighties Mustangs are incredibly fun to hoon around in, easy to lay rubber and sound nice. They're also incredibly uncomfortable-the layout is in no way the right proportion for my reach. I love them too, but my pony car guilty pleasure will always be the same vintage Trans Am. So redneck in an appealing way.

Gordon, great job moving everything around! It's great to see better photos of many of them, you've some VERY nice ones there, YAY!

So what's the total count up to now… 250, 275?? KIDDING! LOL

Also the '86 LX looks GREAT! I don't remember seeing this one before (well, with so many it would be easy to miss, LOL)

(Yes this is not the right forum for this, but) Tim, macboy91si. I have a 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 and am the original owner. It has just over 62K miles, but has been "modified" just a little bit. Send me an e-mail if you'd like to know more. (Also, looking at your screen name, are you into Mac's?)

Best of luck on moving your excess machines Gordon, I hope a large number of people here "step up" and offer them new homes!

Can't get enough of those photos.

I am bouncing back and forth between those of the 1970 500 interior shot, and the 1964 Model 70 console shot. I think those are my two favorites of your vast collection. While I am at it, the 1980 Model 80 in your laundry room looks so pristine it is hard to believe it is a 29 year old washer. Those black paneled models look eternally new when taken care of properly, and you sure do a good job of that.

Jason, I agree 100%, that 800 is breathtaking, and those of that style really do offer a lot. My favorite versions of this 800 are the 1969-71 versions with the chrome handle. I hope you get to put your into use soon, as I know you waited a long time for it.

Have a good one,
James

(amazed Bob remembers the 'infamous' blue towels OMG)

James, the 1969-71 Kenmore 800 is the EXACT machine I grew up with. There was one time in my whole life I've ever seen a 1970 Kenmore 800 set in person. It was an epiphany.

#361857, we must of had a model or 2 down, ours had brushed chrome where the woodgrain is. Hope you get to that one, the parents had a drilled well and were frugal with water. My Mom put in everything that could possibly fit in every load. It always got everything Clean. Kenmore had "oooomph" back then. alr2903

Jason & Appnut - I know nothing about a blue-towel deal, must pre-date me on here, which may be a good thing? I'm all for making laundry, and if it's done by having that much fun, GREAT. But with washers, especially mine? hmmm..... LOL

SupremeWhirlpool - I would have said recently that this Green machine had a console light, but after that white large capacity machine that was featured here a few weeks back that had the same lense, I don't want to say for sure. I have not taken the console apart to look.

Kevin - thanks for the note about the car - no, you hadn't seen pics of this one. I have been putzing around so much in the '92 that this one has been in its storage place. It's time to swap the two. As to the washer count? IDK and don't wanna....

alr2903 - My mom had a 1974 60-series - here's a pic attached of one I saved. Was it like this one? From what I know or can tell, there were four models similar to this, a standard cap. model that was all woodgrain, and four various 24-inch machines. These were not in production long as compared to other Kenmore designs before the venerable black panel models came into the showrooms and took over.

The 'blue towels' was an inside joke from the now defunct chatroom lol.

Even though I grew up with a white 69-71 model 800 with the metal door handle and mercury lid switch, that green one just beats all. And my white 1972 is a dream machine found and cherished. It's the Apex Wash-A-Matic of Kenmores.

A ratty and very well used 1965 Kenmore 800 that was actuall

The lady that I used to clean house for in the mid 80's had a Kenmore 800. It was a great machine, but she had a problem of overloading the washer so she could get her laundry done quicker. She complained that her clothes were getting clean; I told her to quit overloading it and they might come clean. When I told her husband about it, he said that's why I won't buy her a brand new machine.
