Eeek! I thought these were 1-18's for a moment. If you look under the specs, it shows the BOL washer as having a higher agitation arc and fewer strokes per minute... what's up with that? Spins faster too

I am sorry it is even used as a picture of the day. I remember how sad things became when this happened, and I don't want to be reminded.

With a longer agitation stroke and faster spin, I'm wondering if the bottom of the line machine in the ad is not the Westinghouse design that WCI owned at that time, but maybe one of the other brands WCI had gobbled up.

It looks to me like the BOL machine was made by Whirlpool for WCI. The Whirlpool was better, of course. Although the rest of the TOL machine is junk today, the timer looks like it could still be used on a 1-18, as well as the knobs. I seriously doubt there'll be any older WCI top loaders left in the near future. They rust, they break down, and there is no way to get parts. A Rollermatic would be an easier restoration project.

Well, I'll admit. I'm not always right. Thanks for setting the record strait, appliguy.

I recognized immediately by the cabinets that these were not regular Frigidaires before I even saw the specs. Interesting they kept the name "flowing heat dryer".

Now I'll admit my friend Roger had a Westinghouse toploader for a while and it was a far nicer machine than I would have imagined it to be, and fun to use and watch, but I don't think it was worth sacrificing Frigidaire over. Interesting to see the literature. I never knew that the "indexing" was actually touted as part of the wash action.

These models appeared to the the transition from GM to Westinghouse - just before the WCI design was adopted. I noticed the older transmission, neutral drain, in agitator lint filter. Eventually, the awful WCI model was replaced the older Westinghouse design...I have to admit I was never was a fan for the older Westinghouse design - oil leakage - noisy bearings - a bitch to replace the seals.......
