That has got to the be silliest reason to get rid of a machine. It could have been fixed by moving 2 wires. No parts needed. Well maybe some electric tape. It had a lid switch and a check switch. If the check switch closed before the lid switch opened it would cause a short and blow the fuse. This would happen if the switch was ever so slightly out of adjustment. It was really a dumb idea, but those engineers..... |

Photographic evidence #2 - Crazy-strange sticker on a Maytag of all things! The only thing I can guess is that the 2 speed motor is not thermally protected and relies on the fuse to protect it. No other Maytag that I know of had a fuse, in fact I would have put limbs on the line and would have lost an arm or leg with a bet on the subject prior to seeing this machine! My 1959 two speed Kelvinator has a similar set-up. More to come in the new few days.... |
