My cousin's 1993 old-style GE two-speed standard capacity washer started leaking water from the bottom of the outer tub-culprit-rusted through spot on the bottom close to where the transmission boot goes-I wonder where you can get a replacement outer tub from for one of these washers or can you even get one-today's plastic machines are junk-I'd also hate to see another old-style GE washer junked! Help!

Really?

Are you sure the tub is rusted, or did the tub boot just come loose?

You can try patching the outer tub with plumbers epoxy, just clean it REALLY well and get rid of the rust. You can also source a donor machine for a new tub.

Good luck,
Dave

Well tbolt25..
I have a 1993 1 speed Hotpoint sitting in my backyard. You are welcome to it. The only thing is that you will have to come and get it.

the outer tub is definitely rusted through

I know for a fact that the outer tub is definitely rusted through-my cousin was able to poke a hole through it with her finger. It's not the boot.

my cousin gave me the washer!

My cousin got herself a new Samsung front-loader pair, and gave me the old-style GE washer! I now have TWO washers in storage-a belt drive Whirlpool LFA 5800 and a GE WWA7600S old-style washer-the Whirlpool needs a pump, and the GE needs an outer tub. This is exciting-I now have two washers!

tbolt25: Did you get the directions to supremewhirlpool in Hamilton, Ohio? He responded on this thread tht he has a Hotpoint with a good tub waiting for you. From the best of my recollection, the tubs on both GEs and Hotpoints are interchangeable. Plus, the Hotpoint should also yield a good transmission and other valuable parts. Good luck.

I already know of two sources for a tub

One place I found one was repairclinic.com, and another place is our local used appliance store (J and J's). I'm also very excited that my cousin actually gave me the washer, as I stated in the previous post.
