I've run this photo of my laundry set-up many times, but I hate to see your thread die without so much as a single reply!

From left to right: 2006 Frigidaire top-loader (3.0 cu. ft. tub); 2002 Frigidaire front-loader (3.1 cu. ft. tub) and a 2004 Frigidaire dryer with electronic sensors. So far, all have proved to be reliable (knock wood!)

Videos of the top-loader (with its indexing tub) can be viewed at YouTube by searching "2006 Frigidaire Washer". There are three different videos. You can also search them by my YouTube screen name zincalloy.

aquacycle,

the vacuum in the pic does not belong to me... this was the pic attached to the AD when i bought the machine.

My poor vacuum was giving to me by my late grandmother. it was a blue electrolux with on board pipes etc. it was an early-mid 90's model boxed and 'plumpish' looking. I remember it had a round symbol on it similar to a energy symbol of sorts?. -recently misused and no longer in service. delighted with my new L.G upright...best upright I've ever used!

Thanks! It is the original. It is a 1975 Maytag A606. My brother painted the front and top white thinking it would look "new". It needs some cleaning up,new water level buttons, and new lid switch and it's good to go.

Here's my little laundry area. This house doesn't have a basement, so when I bought it last year I had to carve out some space for a laundry. This 50+ year old house never had a laundry hook up. The only place was in the kitchen, behind the side door. Kind of European if you ask me. And man oh man, what it cost to have a proper hook up put in, I don't even want to talk about it. The main beam to the house is underneath that back wall. It was actually complicated to get everything to fit neatly in that back corner. I think it looks pretty good. When I redo the kitchen, I'll have a countertop built for them so they look a little more built in. OH, and by the way, VERY happy with my Kenmores.

but don't you find it a pain with the washer on the right?.....wish those doors would reverse.....my buddy had the same style hookup....and I reversed the machines with no problems, hoses were long enough, and then I went to Homo Depot and got a 4'X8' sheet of whte melamine board, had them cut to size of the alcove opening, and they sell the edge stripping that you iron on, instant counter top for under $30 bucks.....the extra pieces I used as a backsplash and a full shelf above the machines....just some ideas....

i'm not that bothered by the washer being on the right. I did reverse the door to the dryer after they were installed, that was a pain to have the two doors open into each other. The dryer is vented through the bottom so it made sense to put it closest to the outside wall. I like your idea of the white melamine. I might just do that in the interim while I ponder the kitchen remodel.

Bompani (Merloni)

AKA Servis, Equator, EBD, .......
It has four baffles , not 3 as standard size FL usually have.
It is the loudest machine I've ever used, despite the 400 rpm spin is much louder than my 25 y.o. 1100 rpm miele

notice the high rinse level, despite of the half load button pressed

Even in a small one-bedroom rental apartment.. when there is a will there is a way!

Hotpoint 90s electric dryer with auto-dry (therostatic) and speckled procelain drum.Made an extension cord that feeds the dryer only 110v. (The heater normally gets 220v; my apt does not have 220v).

Frigidaire front-loader with backsplash located controls.
A quik-connect coupler allows it to obtain water from the faucet and drain into the sink.

First Sevis Auto Washer

Hi Mike.

Love the photos of the first Servis Auto Washer. My Mum had this machine in 1975 when we lived in Scotland.

When we moved back to England she let a so called friend, who was starting up his own electrical business, service the machine. He said it needed new bearings, the machine was never right after that. The drum would bang against the glass porthole and ended up buying a new machine, the Servis Quartz 600.

Regards

Paul.

hey arrrooohhh,

those two machines you posted, the hoover cadet and zodiac - i had both of these machines when i lived out there, there are loads of them!! cant seem to find them anywhere else in the world!

i got my zodiac from some dodgy second hand shop in maroubra junction, the thing kept breaking down, but when it worked it was good fun!!

You wont find them anywhere else...

Zodiacs and later front load models were based originally on the late 1970's UK machines, but 'simplfied'. No detergent drawers for example until the Electra series came out with the 530/535 in about 1990. They were all made here with some imported parts from the UK...such as door seals...and have proven to be very very reliable...

...and I often wonder if this is because they don't spin any harder than 800rpm (and this was in the later models), were expensive in comparison to top load machines and of smaller capacity (4kg-10lb) so they tended to be bought by couples rather than families.

Hi Zachary (Hooverkeymatic),

I'm not exactly sure what years they were produced, but for some reason I'm thinking they were built from 1970 thru 1978, but I could be wrong. I actually have two of these Maytag A50's, one is a 1973 and the other is a 1978 (pictured).

Since when have proper Hoovers ever not? What does their age have to do with them needing a new machine?

I know I'm being rather rude and out of line but thats the most stupid excuse I've ever heard for scrapping a washing machine.

It makes me furious when people do foolish and wasteful things like that.

I told you on msn, its their grand daughter, the one that decides everything etc.

What she says will happen.

I'd love to keep that, btw- i'm still persuading them to keep it till it lasts! Better than throwing it away.
Please don't ask more questions about that as i also don't like what they might do, i'm still persuading and hope it is effective at the end.

Miele differencies

Hi Favorit,
I must say I do love the W4000 series, mostly for its appearance and the way they are made.In my opinion there are no big differencies between this and the older Novotronic except I miss the possibility to skip or add phases to the program and the fact I could start a program then end it if wrong and start another without wasting water and detergent or start the machine on a program with different water level and then change to another. The other difference is the machine always drains water before starting a program. Your machines are really beautiful. I love that early workhorse on the right!
Marco
P.S. I followed your advice about the white vinegar in place of the fabric softener! Wonderful!

"einknopfbedienung" / "one-knob programming&q

Hi Marco,
it's a pity that the famous, stone-aged "einknopfbedienung" / "one-knob programming" survives only on some toploaders and on the W3205.

By choosing cycle and temp in just one move, it makes impossible to forget about setting temp. Sure, my workhorse looks smart with those sensor buttons, but the small, no lighted temp dial/display is a bit unpratical. Now an then "someone" washed dark cottons @ 80°C cause she read 30 .....

Does the W4000 have a interlock that oblies you to check/select a temp before the start ?

Ciao
Carlo

Hi Carlo,
no there is no interlock to avoid misplacing of the temperature setting although on cotton (on mine baumwolle)cycle, when you select it, the temperature ia automatically set to 60°C. To get to 95°C you have to push repeatedly the temperature button. It starts at 60°C then at every pressure of the switch you have 50,40,30,95,75,60 and so on. Quite difficult to boil laundry by mistake. No other program allow such an high temperature.
