Well I made a visit to a customers house after work to see a very old Bendix tumble dryer she had and wanted rid off.

I went to a very beuatiful old cottage and in one the out buildings was this beauty.

Plugged it in and it works............phew! :-)

Not in the best condition but worth saving I thought, i also found out that it originally belonged to the very first Mayoress of Totnes.

The door knob matches the dials - too fun!

How does the venting or air-flow system work in this dryer?

Air Flow

electron1100's profile picture
From what i can make out, the warm air is blown through the rear of the drum then out through a pepper pot holed vent on the inside of the door and then out through a micro mesh filter which sits in an exhaust pipe which fires out of the back of the machine

OHHH That's so cool

This would be the perfect companion to an Hoovermatic 3334 or like machine, has that classy feel to it. Honestly, in the US I wish we got more appliances like this. I also like the later models of the smaller Bendix driers as well, they've always made handsome driers. I would so visit the UK just to experience some of the wondrous appliances there.

Those knobs match the

early Philco washers here, after Philco bought out Bendix here. So they still must have been connected corporately across the pond back then. Fascinating!

Hi Gary

The aunt of mine, who my dad repaired the Indesit L6 for and who inherited my parents hoover 3236h matchbox after that, had one of these dryers.

It was the first dryer i ever remember her owning and would have been in service in the very early 1980s.
Its working partner was a slanted Hoover 3224 Keymatic, which sat across the kitchen from it.

Even as a nipper of 3ish years old, I remember it as being very knackered, but a good machine.

Great find.
Paul

Nice one Gary, deffo a keeper, this is Bendix UK first tumble dryer, around 1960, and yes Jon it struck me about the knobs!!! a very solid dryer..Eh Gary...LOl

My Aunt had this was badged as "Fisholow" which I`m told was the leccy boards own version, and made just up the road from here!!!

Thats a new one on me Mike...

'Fisholow' - leccy board own version - prior to the adoption of the electra name i'd assume then?

This dryer would have been a match for the giant Bendix LT etc machines - definately a case of little and large!

electron1100's profile picture
Aye up Mike

Yeah it is solid alright like all these old machines .........well i expect it will end up going up country ;-).....possibley close to where it came from :-)

MIKE
Any ideas on that invincible vac i picked up, never heard of them, made in Dudley

Paul
Oh yes i kept the important bits :-)

Have struggling with the AEG today, i can only assume the owners had never (or very rarley) cleaned out the door filter or the heat exchanger, i coudnt not get it out for ages because it was so packed with fluff and lint.........

The main fault was the power supply had gone down, so i replaced the mains transformer and hey presto it works, put a new bulb in it so the drum glows nicley now.

Quite a sophisticated machine, and as it is a few years old it is well built

Funny really when you look at both machines i got this week they are at opposite ends of the time scale yet they both do the same job

Gary
