Does the control board "flip up" and the whole cabinet come off like I've seen in some Whirlpool models? Where do I start?

There should be two Philips head screws on each side of the control panel. Remove those. Then, flip the control panel forward and back. The two snaps are at the same location as a direct drive Whirlpool. Remove those like you would with the Whirlpool, then tilt and lift the cabinet accordingly.

Some Kenmore models have trim pieces at the sides of the console that must be snapped off to access the screws.
