So here are the test results from this year’s test of washing machines. I posted what the consumer magazine had to say about each washer, the overall score and the average retail price.

Some notes:

- tested cycles were Cottons 40*C, Easy Care, Cottons Quick Wash (including wash, rinse and spinning result) and the Wool cycle. Furthermore, the duration of the Quick cycle.
- the endurance was tested by running three models of each machine through 1840 cycles
- the easy-of-use test included: instruction manual, detergent drawer, fascia, (un-) loading of laundry, maintenance, fluffiness of laundry after the spin cycle and accuracy of the count down timer
- the environmental friendliness test included: water and energy consumption on the three above named cycles, energy consumption during stand-by operation and when switched off and noise during washing and spinning
- the leakage protection system was also tested ("safe" or not)

Achivable grades are: Very Good, Good, Satisfactory, Poor, Very Poor

Miele W1743 WPS EcoLine Expensive Winner: Best function and highest user-friendliness. Washes and spins Good and is one of the better machines at rinsing. Very reliable and safe washer for 6 kg of laundry. Frugal with water and energy, only the Easy Care cycle uses a little more. Easy to use. Quiet. -> Good (1.8) / 1020€

AEG/Electrolux Φko Plus 1400 Good all around: Washes Good, the best on the quick cycle. Spins Good to Very Good but not on the quick cycle. Weaknesses at rinsing, especially on the 40*C Cottons cycle. Frugal with water and energy; slightly higher energy consumption only on the Easy Care cycle. Very reliable, safe and easy to use washer for 7 kg of laundry. Quiet. -> Good (2.0) / 735€

Siemens WM14E140 No count down timer: Washes Good but Poor rinsing at Cottons 40*C, otherwise Good to Very Good. Spins Good except for the quick cycle, which also takes long. Easy to use but no delay start or count down timer. Relatively high energy consumption on the quick cycle. Very safe, reliable and quiet machine for 6 kg of laundry. -> Good (2.0) / 560€

Bosch WAE2834P A little slow: Washes Good but weaknesses at rinsing, especially on Cottons 40*C. Spins Good except for the quick cycle, which also takes long and uses relatively much energy. All in all easy to use but door is a little hard to close. Very safe, reliable and quiet machine for 6 kg of laundry. -> Good (2.1) / 620€

Samsung WF 8724 Frugal: Only the quick cycle washes Good, otherwise Satisfactory. Weaknesses at rinsing, especially on Cottons 40*C. Spins Good to Very Good but not on the quick cycle. Easy to use but count down timer inaccurate. Very safe and reliable washer for 7 kg of laundry. Frugal with water and energy. -> Good (2.2) / 630€

Blomberg WAF 7442 SL Good value: Washes Good but on Easy Care only Satisfactory. Spins Good but not on Cottons 40*C, which also has Poor rinsing. Easy to use. Laundry isn't fluffy after the spin cycle. Safe, very reliable washer for 7 kg of laundry. Highest score for environmental friendliness, frugal with water and energy. Good -> (2.3) / 525€

Privileg Dymanic 78614 Easy to use: Washes Good, spins Good (except for Easy Care) but rinses only Satisfactory. Electronics prone to failure. Frugal with water and energy but slightly higher water consumption on Easy Care. Spin cycle is pretty loud. Very safe, easy to use washer for 6 kg. -> Good (2.5) / 670€

Whirlpool AWO 6246 Loud and not very safe: Only the quick cycle washes Good, otherwise Satisfactory. One of the better washers at rinsing and spinning. Noisy. Very reliable and affordable washer for 5 kg. Poor leakage protection and relatively high water and energy consumption. -> Satisfactory (2.6) / 465€

Gorenje WA 75145 Frugal but a little prone to failure: Only Easy Care washes Good, otherwise Satisfactory. One of the best washers at spinning – the worst at rinsing. Slightly failure-prone washer for 7 kg. Poor leakage protection. Very frugal with water and energy but highest stand-by energy consumption. -> Satisfactory (2.9) / 980€

Bauknecht WA Pure XL 34 TDi Leaking: Did not pass the endurance test: the rubber door boot tore so that water leaked. Otherwise easy to use washer for 7 kg with all around Good washing results. One of the best ones at spinning but one of the worst at rinsing. -> Poor (5.0) / 530€

LG F1403TD Broken: This washer of 8 kg capacity failed the endurance test due to a faulty heating element and torn-off drum vanes. Otherwise washes Good on Easy Care and the quick cycle. Best washer at spinning but Very Poor at rinsing on 40*C Cottons. Easy to use but noisy and slow. -> Very Poor (5.0) / 705€

Thanks for sharing!!

I noticed Miele had already a press release to announce the news that they came best out of the test.

I wonder why Siemens is ranked third, both AEG score 2.0 but the Siemens is much cheaper. I guess it's a good alternative to the Miele. I would love to try one for a while.

Typical to see Bauknecht in the lower regions again. They can't pull their act together apparently.

....also worth noting is that the 'Blomberg' that was tested is actually a Beko...

"I wonder why Siemens is ranked third"

Since both the AEG and the Siemens have an overall score of 2.0 they are ranked in alphabetical order. Yeah, too bad about the Bauknecht: they seem to wash well but they just don't last...

"I wonder why Siemens is ranked third"

I imagine it is because the AEG has a larger capacity than the Siemens, thus making it more environmentally friendly - kg for kg.

I guess Alexander knows how those things work with the German Consumer Reports. Overhere in the Netherlands they would rank the cheapest machine before the mroe expensive one if they both had the same score. But then again we Dutch are cheap. LOL

I can't imagine that Samsung was rated "GOOD"

This brand excludes this result. I never would buy one of those machines even if they would be ranked "Very good". Same with LG, Panasonic etc.

Those manufacturers should focus on products which they know really well like TV's, cameras, DVD-players....
