I saw a posting on Tacoma Craigslist yesterday - emailed the seller and settled on a price, and drove the 3-1/2 hours from Vancouver, BC. to Tacoma, WA. to pick it up! It's almost immaculate! Fantastic shape, very clean, and absolutely functional! In fact, I'm running it through its paces as I write this! Does a great job! Just wish I lived in a house instead of an apartment, so I could have room for rinse tubs. Oh well, we do what we can with what we have...

The pic attached shows the rinse tub that was being sold also, but I didn't get it....sorry, the photo is badly blurry...but everybody knows what they look like anyway.

Hi Brad ...

Welcome to the "Maytag Conventional Club"!! :-)

They are wonderful machines and get clothes clean.

Was the safety device removed before you got it?

Enjoy!!!

Geoff

WOO HOO!

Congrats on a very nice machine! The perfect machine to have in a apt. Less space, rolls around and the kitchen sink is all you need to run it. We want more pics!

Apartment Dwelling

I manage an apartment building and have snuck my own washer and dryer into the managers work room. I have a revolving door of new finds, fixer uppers and lastest toys. I want a Maytag wringer but the laundry sink is in the main laundry room. Some tenants have complained to my manager about my laundry abuse. She requested I not bring machines into the general laundry area, so I shift between one of 5 Maytags as the mood hits me. The 806 is my Favorite. I was intrigued to learn you can swap helical for orbital transmissions and thats my next project for the TOL Maytag LAT series I have.

Thanks for all the messages!

Yes, the safety device was detached from the machine - I would have liked to have seen it, and how it worked. From what I hear, it was a foot pedal of sorts?

As soon as I got in home, I gave it a whirl! I washed a few scatter rugs and a wool blanket, and then some regular laundry (shirts, towels, etc.). Everything came out beautifully clean (could be partly due to the ALL detergent I used, which I bought in Bellingham on the way home), and the machine operates so quietly! BTW, on the subject of ALL detergent, I'm going to write a letter to Unilever...it hasn't been available on the Canadian market now for many years, and it was always my mother's brand of choice. It's so frustrating, especially in light of NAFTA, that some brands are being removed from the Canadian supermarket shelves. One would think MORE brands would be available now, not less.

I'll try to post some pics at some point - perhaps a video, also I just use my webcam, so the quality isn't the best (as anybody who saw my Suzy Homemaker washer video can attest!) For those who haven't, I've included the YouTube link.

All Detergent

All is not owned by Unilever, but was sold to The Sun Products Corporation. Wisk, All and Surf were all sold to them under a big transaction awhile back.

Unilever / Sun Products

Hey Phil..thanks for that info. The box of "ALL" I have must be older stock, as it still has the Unilever info. I read the article from the website link you attached, dated Feb. 2009 re. the sale of Unilever laundry products to Sun. I'll contact them with my querie.

Nice looking machine, glad you got it back home here safe and sound. Any trouble with customs? BTW where in Bellingham did you find the All detergent? I last saw it on our shelves 10 years ago then it disappeared.

Money shot

It sat outside, covered, for 15 years before we plugged it back in. Then came the job of cleaning the tub. But the results turned out good!

That's about right. My E2LP sat dormant in a dusty barn for more that two decades before I picked her up and she rewarded me by running problem free the first time...

What I find freaky about Maytag wringers is, you can only see one roller. Is one roller black or hidden? Is that a black cover that hides the top roller?

Post# 377648 , Reply# 18   9/8/2009 at 20:10 (5,336 days old) by norfolksouthern ()

The top is indeed a black roller, rpm. Come to think of it, it does look a little freaky!

IIRC, the white and black rollers are 2 different hardnesses, to provide for better wringing results. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Black Roller

bradross's profile picture
You're right, Tim (polkanut) ... the top black roller is softer, so it doesn't break buttons. When you feed the laundry through the wringers, you ensure the buttons are facing up. Mine works beautifully!

Add me...

...mine is similar to RedCarpetDrew's model with the exception of the timer that shuts down agitation when it goes off.

The little rubber rings that go around the screws under the agitator have worn and started to leak, so I need to locate the parts for that, but the machine is still in good working order otherwise. I need to get it fixed soon....it blows away my DD Whirlpool on how it cleans a load!

One last thing Brad......

I'm not sure about the square tubs, but on my round tub model, I installed the POWERFIN agitator, you will get more vigorous wash action PLUS lint filter to boot....just a thought!
