Belt Drives.
It would be a good machine for practicing and belt drive parts (pump, BASEPLATE, etc. If you can get for free or a scrap price, it would be a good washer. They do wash well and are quite gentile on fabrics. Kenmoreguy64 is the resident belt drive expert here. Let's see what he says. I say go for it, Dave | ||

fltcoils / Bill - I am not aware of any universal or common rust issues on belt-drive machines, though they can develop rust holes in outer tubs especially if the machine is not level long term and water is allowed to sit in it away from the drain outlet. Most used appliance stores are no longer rebuilding or repairing belt-drive machines simply due to their age and cost of parts. I have noted a few being re-sold that were very nice or not broken, as the supply of good machines for these stores has become short in the tight economy, but most are still being discarded without even being checked. Chances are the store just didn't want to mess with that machine. I think most of us here would much rather have and use it as compared to the newer stuff the store had on the floor.
