Lately I've seen a few washers on the curb on bulk-trash day, and I'm thinking maybe its time to tinker with my Admir-pool.

The Whirl-miral doesn't have a softener dispenser, which would be nice. Is there an online or .pdf guide to doing agitator swaps? I'm the type who likes to read about and understand these things in advance, before taking things apart.

Agitator swaps ain't too hard with these. All you do is take the cap off by fitting a screwdriver in the slot, and prying up. Then, grab your socket and ratchet out the screw. Then pull up from the bottom of the skirt. Now take the other agitator and screw that sucker in and you're go to go!

types of agitators

I have heard "surgelator" and others, but what are the types, and their attributes or drawbacks.

My Admiral has the two piece corkscrew type.

a SURGILATOR by an other name is still the same!

yogitunes's profile picture
Surgilator
Super Surgilator
Double Duty Surgilator
Dual Action
Dual Action Plus
Dual Action Triple
ETC, ETC, ETC

the only difference you have to watch out for is did it come out of a BELT DRIVE or DIRECT DRIVE...BD will not interchange with DD

the Fabric Softner dispenser may just fit on your original without swaping out the whole agitator, you never know...

Sounds like a good idea for a picture thread!

Here is a picture of the Super Surgilator in the 1995 portable Whirlpool DD machine that is waiting for Norfolksouthern. This agitator has a lint filter in the inside at the bottom, so the top half of the agitator is removable. Take note that this one is smaller than the Super Surgilator in the design 2000 machine.

Here is a picture of the Dual Action Triple agitator in my 1999 Kemore Electronic 90 series machine(same as CleanTeamofNY's machine). What an awesome machine!! The top part on this agitator up and down with the help of a spring depending on what is against the augers. The Dual Action Plus looks the same as the Dual action Triple. The difference is that the top half of the DAP does not have the extra spring so it functions the same way as that DA agitator. The augers of the DAP are slightly bent more down compared to the DA, and the DAP has these bar-bump things that go up the top half of the agitator in an auger-like fashion.

thanks!

What are the merits of each type?

Would switching to one or other put any stress on my motor or other parts?
