You probably wouldn't know me from Adam, but I was wondering if there is anyone in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area who I could contact that would be willing to help repair or rebuild a vintage automatic washer should I happen to find one that interests me. I'm always watching for old machines but am leary of acquiring anything since I know very little about washer repair. Just a thought....

Hi Rob, I have helped a few of our local MN members before with some parts of their restorations. I can't promise my availability when you find something but you can always send me an email. Some machines can take months to get working properly and then you use it for a bit and something else goes wrong. That's just the facts of life with owning and actually using a vintage machine. Right Jed? :-)

Should I consider the machine in this ad? They're fascinating to watch in operation, but how difficult is it to find parts if something goes haywire?

Very fun washer, but parts will be hard to find. Of course you can always play with it for a while and if you cannot find parts or otherwise fix it you can always pass it onto another collector who might have the parts needed.

They are fun washers, not much to repairing them, but parts are getting very hard to find. Price seems OK.

Yes I can attest to everything Robert has said ;)

I wouldn't worry about not being able to fix machines/find parts. The beauty of this site is being able to find dream machines, actually go out and get them, and then using the wealth of information that is here to fix them.

I really want this machine and if I had a truck, it'd be a no-brainer.... The guy offering it for sale responded last night and said the machine is in pretty decent shape with just a little rust along the bottom--typical, I guess, given the machine is over 30 years old. Maybe someone on here would be interested in it.

Hey Rob (rll70sman), you can rent a cargo van from Enterprise Rent-A-Car for $38 (+tax) a day (2 locations in Hastings). They also have pickup trucks, but they are $66.50/day and the cargo van is easier to load through the side door (real easy from a curb!). I know, I've done it!

Enterprise is real easy (and they pick you up!) plus they do NOT charge for mileage like U-haul or Home Depot for their trucks!

No doubt, Kevin! Where there's a will, there's a way. How bad do you want it? Any friends you can call in your favors with?

I decided to pass on the Frigidaire 1-18 in St. Paul. My thought was to get both a vintage washer and dryer since there's really no place to hook up multiple machines in a townhome. It'd be great to find a pair of machines in one of the vintage colors like avocado green, harvest gold, coppertone, or flame red. I grew up with the wild '70s decor and have been obsessed with it for quite some time.

Thank you, Robert, for your willingness to help if something comes along that needs repair or restoration. And thanks to you all for letting me know that I have someone to turn to for information. I sincerely appreciate that :-)!

Rob
