I recently picked up a Whirlpool LSQ9549LW2 for $25.00. It needed the usual motor coupling and spin was very sluggish. I replaced the clutch, spin is up to par now, but there's a swish swish swish sound during spin. I removed the wash basket, found that it has cut a shallow groove into the bottom of the plastic outer tub (I think the rubbing of the basket against the bottom of the tub was the swishing sound.) Any suggestions as to the cause/solution to this? Also, braking action seems a bit weak--takes a while to stop spinning. Any help will be appreciated.

take a look at the drive block that the clothes basket sits on. If you see metal shavings or that the drive block is damaged in Any way, replace it. Also look that 2 notches that the drive block fits into from the spin tube. if the notches are bent and damaged in any way, spin tube needs to be replaced also. Also (VERY IMPORTANT), if you do see metal shavings around the top if the spin tube, remove the transmission and spin tube and inspect the spin tube for metal shavings. If the spin tube is damaged I may have a spare for you. Do you have a picture of this machine?

Thanks for the fast reply. Yes, there are metal shavings aroung the top of the drive block. I may have another one here, will have to check and see. If not, I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer. I don't have a picture but will try to get one soon.

Be sure that you remove ALL metal shavings and debris from the area and any that happen to make their way between the transmission shaft and the seals (inside the spin tube). Using a spin tube with damaged notches will guarantee drive block failure.(even after you replace the drive block)
