Picked up this rather nice example of a Hoover reversing dryer with the "Mean Machines" sticker on it

Havent tested it yet but visually looks to be in good condition

From Hoover Who Better..!!!

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Nice one Gary, a classic dryer in every way, one of the best dryers around!! reverse action with creasguard, a gentle rumble and a steady warm breeze, took a couple of pence more than todays dryers, but perfect results!!!

Built on the original Merthyr site, factory three, as seen back left, over the railway line!!! you can see the "WalkWay" above the railway line linking new & old...

This was their heyday in some ways............it so sad to see them now like other Britsh manufacturers..........

But hey ho gladly we mad gits keep them going and enjoy them all for what they are.

I do remember Hale & Pace.........yeah could have backfired on Hoover using them, but fortunately it didnt

Looks lovely Gary.

Always the case eh! The instant you make room, then something comes along and fills it again.

A fully operational, good condition machine, pensioned off for no real reason then? I dont know.

The A3060 and D6042 look stunning. Brings back memories for me, as a colleague of my mothers had the same pair, arranged like you have yours, but in an alcove just after you walked through the door.
Glad the A3060 has gone to a good home.

ta ta for now
Paul

Dryers and things

electron1100's profile picture
Hello Paul

Glad your back with us.........
Aye tis a nice dryer sounds very nice, who knows why people get rid of working stuff.

But i will be doing the same, as you know i am not a lover of this range of machines (yes i know i am mad) so at some point i shall decide what to do with it.

I tried out the 3060 today and thought of you immediatly coz the programmer moans and clicks very loudly all the way through a cycle.

It all worked and washed beautifully (as these all do)......and even had balanced final spin......(it happens sometimes)

Two points, the belt is knackered and the suspension is a bit twisted so needs doing, i replaced the crush washer on the drum bearings and took up the slack and all seems well on that front.

Again thanks for a great weekend, not too long until the end of November!

Gary

Ps just one tiny thing, on Als thread about the dryer what do you mean "Usual Bendix" how very dare you!........ :-)

Great weekend we had indeed, Gary those look fab together!
The more I see the more I may allow some more Hoover into the collection LOL.

Still cant get over the other find either as im sure Mathew cant too. To have both the unadvertised and probably only Selectamatic produced ever next to its matching dryer is unbelievable.

Hoover, Merthyr Tydfil well we couldnt go and see it on Tuesday without a few photos now could we.
Pleasant enough town too even if our spirits were killed with a horrendous downpour of rain forcing us to buy new jeans and socks to dry up.

I think you two were brave to go to the Hoover factory......as i couldnt do that now......it would depress me....

I understand a cetain other machine spat its dummy out of the pram or is that water :-)..........never mind it will get sorted

and the impromptu tour of Cardiff was a larf........
