It is very common for the latches that hold the door CLOSED to break. Same for the 'draw strings' that support the small drop-down doors when OPEN. This applies to basically every dryer made with that style door, at least eventually. What's funny is the lengths some people go to secure the door shut when the latch breaks. Logic tells me to buy a new latch, but some overly smart folks will go to the trouble to install a pad-lock assembly somewhere on the front of the dryer! All because they didn't bother buying a clip! |

Yep, I replaced the clip on my 81 a few years ago. It only cost a dollar or so, if I remember correctly. One of the two draw strings broke 3 years ago, but I actually like since it takes much less effort to open the door now. I may have to raid RCD's haul away piles for a couple of draw strings when this one finally snaps.

We had a Norge-20 dryer when I was young. The one that was FAN FORCED drying. Well, the door latch broke. Initially, we used to prop a broom handle up against the door to be able to dry clothes. Then we used a clamp from an old set of jumper cables. We weren't sorry to see that dryer go when it was replaced. |
