There are a large group of friendly and helpful people here, so don't be shy, come back often! Personally I think it may be the water inlet valve. I recently picked up a Maytag A806 washer (top of the line with a lighted control panel) and when I connected it after getting it home, it did the exact same thing as yours. First turn off the water, take off the hoses and make sure the little screens in the inlet valve (where the hoses connect) are not clogged with dirt, rust or other crud. Double check the wires connected to it, make sure they are not corroded. If they look to be clean, the solenoid for the "HOT" side is probably no good. I would suggest buying a replacement water lnlet valve from an appliance parts store which sells Maytag parts, then you or your husband replace it. It's easy enough to do. If you have any trouble or other questions, just post it here. Good luck! Kevin |

May just need a new water inlet valve. Pretty cheap and easy repair. Call your local parts house with the model number for a price. Pay attention to how you UN-install the old one and just reverse the proceedure with the new one. |

Yes, that may very well be the problem. Without screens all kinds of debris could get in and clog up that valve. |

Can you still get a genuine Maytag part for such an old machine? |

Maytag used this particular valve for several decades. It was used from 1966 through at least the mid 90's, if not longer. Part # is 205613

Here are two photos of my "new" Maytags! They were taken by the auctioneer at the auction hall. Not a scratch on them - they look like new. And they are both VERY quiet. |

A107 or A108
Lift the lid and the placard should be at the right rear corner of the opening.
