I was working on a dryer and saw this in the kitchen. She has the custom wood panels mounted.

When I opened the door, I saw stainless! I don't think I've ever seen a older model Superba with a stainless interior before. Someone I talked to didn't think it was a common model...

This dishwasher isn't currently in use, so it looks a little rough.

I also don't remember seeing one with a small twirler for the upper sprayer before...

The racks are in average shape. They seem... heavier? than other K/A racks I've seen.

Kool. IMO the machines with the SS interior tend to be a bit noisier than the porcelain tub machines.

The model Tag.

How old is this one? Am I right in assuming that this is a rare model? I actually have a really good chance of ending up with this by year's end (It's in a kitchen in a office like setting which is going to be renovated beginning of next year...) Would this be worth getting and working on?

Stainless steel tank KA DW

combo52's profile picture
The SS tank was an option on the TOL KA DWs in the 16-17-18 models. I have never seen an 18 but i have the dist price list witch lists this option it was aprox 100 dollars more. I have seen about 6 modle KDS16 machines with SS tanks the KDS 16 is one of my favorite KA DWs. Both my brother and each have a 16 with a SS tank in our collection. Drew you should diffenley get this machine if you can.

With a SS over head Constant Rinse. A rare specimen.
Grab it , Steal it, Run away with it. What a Beauty. I have never run across one of these. I always knew they were available with SS Chambers. It was an option I believe only in the Superba series

Beautimus! That overhead rinse is missing the plastic part that has 1 slit on each end, as it often occurs it musta snapped off.

Somewhere between 1968 - 1971

Drew, I also brought home a KDS-16 with when I brought home my 1962 Maytag A700 - DE701 set. This one has the porcelain interior but also has stainless panels on the front. When I posted pix of mine soberleaf (now Rollermatic) said the KDS-16's were build between 1968 & 1971.

I got it for free (did the guy a favor hauling it away) and when I tested it I discovered it had a water leak at the main shaft seal and was leaking down on top of the motor. It probably would have been an easy fix, but I decided not to mess with it and gave it to my friend Mike, who had been trying to find one for a while. I figured I'd share the good karma.

In looking at the pix of mine again (link below), I now think I should have kept it! (Kicking myself in the A$$!!! OK think good karma....)

I was VERY surprised when I saw the interior shot of this one... I've NEVER seen a stainless interior on one of these older KA models (maybe I just didn't pay attention then?). This one is pretty cool!

How can you turn down a machine that has a whole section for

Great pix, as usual. That old wood just shouts "I am an amazing dishwasher."

Look at the difference between the KA wash arm and this more modern one.

what a beauty. i have a kdss-17a and it was the first stainless interior kitchenaid i ever saw! in fact it's my main machine.

my racks are the same as all others, no heavier. mine has the exact same constant rinse as yours.

i would grab that in a heartbeat! i find it a rare find myself! i bought mine from a guy in boston and paid 200 bucks plus u crate it shipping, that's how much i wanted mine! that stainless tub is to die for!

chances are your's will run fine with no tune up needed! mine doesn't leak a drop and has the original water seal in it.

grab that sucker and enjoy it for what it is!!!!!!!!!!!!
