I was searching craigslist tonight looking for a portable dishwasher for my summer kitchen. As usual all the portables were newer GE's and Kenmores and everyone wants like $400 for them. Then I found this nice looking Kitchenaid built in for only $75 and was wondering if it can be made into a portable and if so what would I need to do?

Also want to know more about this dishwasher if anyone can tell me anythin gfrom the only pic there was of it. Hopefully this is a Hobart made unit.

it would take a bit of work but you could install wheels or casters and a faucet hookup. i know quick connects for faucets can be bought at lowes or home depot, hoses are readily available and you could make sides out of plywood or other wood.

first dishwasher i ever worked on was a 1964 hotpoint built in. got it when i was 12 and spent summer fixing it up. i had metal panels made for sides and back from the high school metal shop class and installed hoses and a quick connect.

we used it for quite a while. oh yea, a top can easily be made of many types of wood or laminate.

it would be a fun way to go! a do it yourself portable. or forget the sides and top, put it on wheels and hook up the hoses and your off to the races!

You have to be really careful about stability though with the door open and a rack out. KA machines were pretty heavy, but the convertible portables had the front wheels set forward of where the front feet are for stability. Maybe a piece of iron attached to the frame in back would suffice. If I remember right, the conversion piece for the fill valve is 3/4" outside thread to 3/8" inside thread so you can attach a regular fill hose to it.

Many models,

were designed with both options! The same model built in could have sides that could be put on readily, etc. to make it a convertable.
