My neighbor gave me a Frigidaire TL that's about 10 years old or so when he replaced it with a FL Bosch. It appears as if the spin brake is bad in it. When the spin cycle is finshed, the motor cuts off, but the brake doesn't engage. The lid stays locked for over a minute or so while the tub coasts down.

How hard is it to replace the brake in these? I am thinking this may be an electrical problem too, like a solenoid that has failed or something. I would think though that a solenoid with engage to release the brake, not to apply it. Any of you guys had experience with this glitch?

If I'm correct they don't have a brake...thats why the lid LOCKS...until the tub slows down to a stop, then you can open the lid....

at least mine does, it has the indexing tub

Yogitunes, you are correct. This is what is unique about newer Frigidaire top loaders and, if I remember right, they no longer spin drain like the old General Motors models. Rather, they go through a neutral drain phase, then shift into spin.

frigidaires do NOT have a spin brake that is the reason why the lid locks and it is also the reason why the tub indexes when agitating

aaah, okay. you guys cleared all of it up. I thought this thing had some minor malfunctions, but it all seems to be normal then!

Franklin Tranny...

The Frigidaire T/L has a separate drain motor, so it has a neutral drain. The locking lid stays locked too long, especially if your in a hurry. I guess it has to be that way now days. It would take too many symbols, to write,"DO NOT REACH IN, ADD OR REMOVE LAUNDRY UNTIL ALL MOVING PARTS HAVE STOPPED" alr2903

Hence, the indexing tub. No brake. The locked lid can be a pain, as it takes a few minutes to cool down and unlock.
