I love this website and have been browsing it for several years but just recently joined as a member. I am interested in vintage washers and dishwashers, specifically Hobart KitchenAid from the 70's. I would be interested in meeting any other members in the Dallas/Ft Worth Texas area with my same interests. I don't currently have a collection or the space to start one but would like to meet other old appliance nuts that might be able to help me start one. You all seem like a great group of people and I had no idea that there were so many others who shared my love and interest in vintage appliances. I would like to meet others in my area to swap stories and share experiences, etc.

Welcome to the group!

As I'm sure you already know, there are a lot of really great and helpful people here. If you need any info about a machine, just ask!

Once you are able to start a collection, be careful, it can start growing very quickly! I started a collection less then a year ago and at this moment I have 14 washers plus a number of dryers, 2 wringers and 2 twin tubs! OMG, too many! LOL

You will meet some great people here that will share your interests.

Keep your eye on E-Bay and Craigslist for your area. KAids show up all the time and many of them are like new!~

Best wishes!

Welcome from the Great White North!

How's it going, eh? I'm Gary from Canada, and like you, I've been browsing this site for a few years before joining up. In fact, I'm almost as new as you, having joined just a few weeks ago. If you have questions to ask, or info to share, this is the place. Welcome abood!

Welcome

Salutations:

I've recently joined myself and am just about finished getting an KD21-AC ship shape again.

Fantasic machines, seems to use less energy, is way-hey-hey better built than the outragously expensive Maytag it replaced used - and - does a much better job cleaning.

If you find one in your area, make sure to 're-commision' it carefully. I've posted a couple of wordy tech tips about that if you ever need them.

Cheers and best wishes.

Jon

Thank You

Thanks to all for the warm welcome, I had a feeling that this was a warm and welcoming group of people, I look forward to getting to know you all much better. While I live in Texas, I vacation in the Portland, coastal Oregon area 3-4 times per year so I am interested in meeting people in both areas.

RE:

Thanks Terry, my mom got a KDS 18 in 1977 and it truly was the best dishwasher ever. I would love to have one today.

Jeff, love the picture of the WP panel, especially the "filtering" light!! My aunt Peggy had that very machine and I have fond memories watching it run. She also had the matching WP dryer with the glass window.

First, a big welcome. Second, a word of warning. This hobby is addictive! You'll find this to be a great bunch of people, but I sincerely hope you have a large basement or garage!

i am also a hobart kitchenaid lover, have 22 kitchenaids at the moment but am running out of space. i am buying a kds-17a here in cinti this week for 80 bucks and it looks fine.

if you would ever like a kds-17a i have 7 of them now and don't need that many. i would be willing to sell one for the same price i paid for it.

you can always have it shipped. my one kdss-17a came all the way from boston!

enjoy the site and the people here are a wealth of information!

pete

Re: Welcome

Thanks Pete,

I would be interested in a kds-17. Do you have any with stainless steel panels?? What price range are we talking about?

stainless panels is my kdss-17a which also has the stainless tub, that's the one i had shipped via "u crate it' from boston.

the one i would sell would be a kds-17a with reg color panels and i will sell for what i paid for it.

my friend jim the trucker usually ships for me when i buy long distance. he usually charges anywhere from 150 to 200 bucks to ship a dishwasher. def a better price than "u crate it".

there are a lot of old kitchenaids out there, i would suggest scanning craigs list and e bay. i just bought a kd-14 off e bay for a buck!

i would also suggest using jim to pick it up for you. that way you can search all over the country.

i like the 17 and older series as they have the single hydrosweep. i never was impressed or turned on by the 18's and above that added that second spray arm under the top rack, although i have an 18, 2-19's, a 21, and a 23.

a lot of people like the later models better and there are plenty still around. the older one's are abit harder to find, that's why i grab every 17 and older i can find. have a guy here in cinti with a 10 and 12 i will prob get when i can save the money, i am 'dishwasher poor" at the moment.

but i do have an extra 17-a, providing i do buy the one this week from the guy here in town. i did offer it to a fellow member but not sure what the answer will be. if he doesn't want it it will still be up for grabs.

parts are still out there too i will add, pump seals are pretty easy to find, even for the older models. and when it's a hobart kitchenaid that's all i ever have to replace. most of my machines, including my 2 kd-12's from circa 1957 still have the original pump seal and don't leak!

this site is kitchanaid heaven! i started a little over a year ago and now have 33 dishwashers, over 20 kitchanaids, some were given to me, some bought for 50 bucks, a few for a buck on e bay. shipping is critical, that's why jim is a life saver to me. found him thru a friend on this site, he's cheap, he does a great job! and he's usually quick! i have his number and e mail.

have fun!
