I have a friendly dispute going on with some neighbors in my condo. They say the non-coin-op commercial Maytag washers in our building are original from when the building was built in 1980. I say they aren't. The control panel, the tub design, the agitator style with its short, choppy strokes all say differently. Can anyone tell me what year this washer was made? If it's original, then it must have gone through the complete helical to orbital tranny overhaul.

Model: MAT11MNAAW

Serial: 12600980QD

Hi Jim: It appears to be a 1996 or 1997. Take a picture of those machines and post it here.

I don't have a digital camera, but this pic will do (sans the kitty and fabric softener dispenser)

Definitely the last of the Dependable Care models, or the last REAL Maytags so to speak. The wide lid, tub opening, tub ring, and LoadSensor agitator are a dead giveaway. A 1980 machine would look completely different...IIRC that was the first year of the control knob on the right. This version had an almond-colored control knob and buttons...sometime in the mid-80's the color of the controls was changed to brown I believe.

At the earliest they're from the late-90's, but my guess is 2000-2003.

based on serial #, it was made in Feb 1996.
