Guys, a 712 set could be delivered to me so I will not be able to give the washer a look over. Should I ask the guy to send me a picture inside of the cabinet for (transmission oil or water leaks)? |

Possible 12 series machines with ivory 10 series buttons? I'm not familiar with these 10 series models at all!

"It washes great and as long as it's summer and the cold isn't that cold it's fantastic. But when it's winter the cold water can't do the rinse I want." Time to install a tempering valve! CLICK HERE TO GO TO qsd-dan's LINK on eBay |

The long version: Cold water line goes to the cold side of the tempering valve. You'll need to install a "Y" adapter somewhere on the hot water line since you'll need a line to the hot side of the tempering valve (for desired mixing temp) and a line to the hot side of the water valve (for hot water washes). What I like about this particular tempering valve is its adjustibility from 80-120F. The valve is also rebuildable. This valve will give you a minimum of an 80F cold wash, spray rinse, and deep rinse. |

I've searched a number of used appliance stores. They are not selling older Maytag washer, let alone an A712. They're so far away. |

"I've searched a number of used appliance stores. They are not selling older Maytag washer, let alone an A712. They're so far away." Most new an used appliance outfits will take older machines with the exchange of newer or refurbished units. Print out of picture of what you're looking for and tell them you're willing to pay $$ for a particular machine in any condition, working or not (most older Maytags are in good condition and only need minimal maintenance anyway). I currently have some feelers here out in the bay area. Hopefully they'll payoff. |

What is a good price range to offer for older Maytags? Well, particularly the A712 washer. My Whirlpool Gold is almost 5 years old and I like to replace it with an A712. Offering to exchange my newer Whirlpool Gold for an older Maytag washer... could that work? |

I'm very confident that would trade an "old" Maytag washer for your new Whirlpool in a heartbeat! I usually offer $50. Might not seem much to us in the know, but that's a lot $$ for something they're going to crush anyway and get little to nothing for it in return. It's also a lot of $$ for something "sooooooo ooooooold." Little do they know.....*snicker* *snicker* |

I should have made that more clear. If you're buying the machine outright, offer $50. If you're offering a trade, trade the Whirly for the Tag straight up. If one of the used appliance places refurbishes and sells 12 series and older Maytags, you'll have to offer them more $$. Otherwise, $50 will be kind of an insult. For those places that just junk the old Maytags, $50 will seem very generous. |
