Wringer washer

There's a gift shop here in CT that's going out of business/being taken over by someone else which has a Maytag wringer in good shape as a display item. I don't know if it's for sale or not, but you can check with them- Shop is called Connecticut Memories in New Milford, CT. Phone # is 860-354-3399, The owner's name is Madeline. It's not a square Maytag.

Lots-a-Wringers Out There

I know of a couple in PA. However, there's gotta be a lot of wringer washers in California and you'd be saved with shipping and handling charges.

Head's Up: IMHO wringer washers lose their savor rather quickly.

We got one from my wife's grandmother when she died. It had been stored in her barn for years.

Being homeschoolers, we wanted to give our kids the experience of going back to yesteryear.

So, one day, we decided (as a family) to do things the old way.

Off went the T.V. and on went the radio.

We decided to bake our own bread, cook our own soup, wash our own clothes, and type our papers.

Part way into the second load of dirty laundry--after we had hauled up-teen pickle buckets full of water, heaved them over the side of the tub, washed clothes (in Oxydol), wrung them out, hung them on the line, etc., etc., etc.--we found that our backs were breaking and we were utterly exhausted.

It was painful, even for people who love to wash.

I looked at my kids and said, "Now do you understand why alcoholism was rampant among those who lived in depressed, rural communities?"

Then we marched back into the 21st Century and finished the clothes in the Maytag Atlantis.

And as the machine kicked into the spin cycle, I celebrated our return to modern times by singing disco hits: "Ain't no stoppin' us now. . .we're on d'move!"

Signed,

No Turning Back on the East Coast

There are nice people here, but there are also nasty people all over the internet. Please don't post direct contact information where folks can use it to track you down. It isn't safe.

I hope you get your Maytag, their neat. Best safety-release I ever saw, by the by.

For your approval.... the 1964 Maytag N2LP. It should spiff up pretty nicely!
