Hi all,

First of all, a hello to everybody on here, not been posting much as I used to recently, but still have a read and a quick post on here from time to time.

Just an update on our Miele washing machine. Last week it stopped mid-cycle, displaying an F53 error and to call for service. This happened Monday, called technical service and they came out Saturday. Very pleasant chap, very friendly and helpful and just how customer service should be. Anyway, he plugged in the Miele laptop through the PC interface, and from the fault codes displayed (of which about 50 were detergent overdosing errors - probably thanks to when my siblings use themachine), he saw that F53 was a "Speed sensor error", however he couldn't get the error to replicate and everything was fine and working as should. However, in the fault history there was also a couple of Powerboard errors which apparently came up a year or two ago but cleared themselves, however he still swopped it for a new one just to be on the safe side. Other than that he couldn't find anything wrong, and said that the error code was probably just a false alarm.

However, as well as all that, he also ran the PC update function on the machine, and this is the really interesting bit. The updates raise the water levels on the main wash for cottons and minimum iron, for "enhanced fabric care and wash performance" (they must have been reading on here!), so now the mainwash fills to the rim of the drum, which was where water plus used to fill too... now when water plus is selected the wash water will touch the bottom of the window. There was also an update to the woollens programme, which altered it so it uses more water in order to soak down the load quicker.

The final update was a change in the rinse and spin cycles. The major rinse update was a change in the interim spins. Instead of gradually speeding up to 1000rpm over a minute or so without any bursts, now it will do a 600rpm burst or so, decelerate, then start tumblign again straight away, winds up into a distribute in about 15 seconds, then zooms up to 1000rpm in a matter of 10-15 seconds if that. This is apparently in order to aid in preventing sudslocks, out of balance loads, and also excessive creasing. The extra rinse that is introduced on 30/40/50*C cottons cycles has also been altered. Before, the 1st rinse was about 10 minutes long, and would then drain and refill the drum without tumbling at all, before doing the "extra" rinse for about a minute if that before doing the interim spin and going onto the final rinse. Now, the first rinse lasts for about 6-7 minutes, it will drain whilst still tumbling, do a long, fast burst (definitely longer than the minimum iron interim spins, and the new pre-interim spin bursts on cottons), before doing another 6 minute "extra" rinse at a high level, and then continuing into the 1000rpm interim spin and the softener rinse.

The final spin profile has also changed so that it is longer and faster. The profile before used to be about 3 minutes of 1200rpm followed by 1.5 minutes of 1600rpm, before slowing down, doing a minutes anti crease or so, then ending the cycle. Since it's been updated, it now speeds straight up to 1400rpm, will spin at 1400rpm for about 2 minutes, then up to 1600rpm for 3-4 minutes, before slowing down, only doing a couple of loosening tumbles and then ending the cycle. Seems to get stuff even drier before though it's probably my imagination, but hearing it go to 1400rpm in a few seconds is amazing.

So, although I was intially disappointed that it needed service after 3 years, I'm actually now happy that they came as the new updates really are an improvement. The extra initial cost really has paid off... not only in the form of the 10 year guarantee, but we've on average only had run-of-the mill Hotpoint and Bosch machines last 3-4 years. The Miele engineer who came round assured us that we still have years of service left yet in the machine, and seeming as our washer is on 3-4 times, sometimes more everyday, and washes for 6 people including a 1 and a bit year old, it pretty much is a testament to their quality.

We also had issues with the dryer a few months ago, which was quickly sorted out. A blocked vent had caused fluff to accumulate inside, and on the drum rollers which was causing the dryer to make a scraping noise. Since this has been sorted (again, free of charge by Miele even though it was out of guarantee), the dryer has been quiet and as good performing as ever.

It has actually restored my faith in humanity, that there is at least one company left out there with decent customer service and one that makes products to last the duration! A heavily used washer is now 3.5 years old without any major repairs bar this slight hiccup, dryer is over 2 years old, dishwasher that's used 1-2 times a day is now over 4 years old and nothing wrong as of yet, and the vacuum cleaner we have is astounding too (can't remember how long we've had it though, probably about 2 or 3 years). Definitely all worth their intial outlay.

Jon

PS. I forgot to mention that the sent back the powerboard that was originally in our machine back to Germany to be investigated, as it was unusual for one to show a fault at such an early age - really shows their commitment behind the product.

Hehehehehe long text but I just can agree with you :D:D Miele Major appliances are the best oneīs. And the customer service is also the best :D:D

When our Bosch dishwasher had a fault, we called the Bosch service. The pulled the machine out of the kitchen unit and tryed to repair it. But he wasnīt carefull enough and flooded our kitchen. I really have been enerved. And after he flooded the kitchen he asked for a bucket!... No more words.

And after one month our dishwasher was broken again. So we called the Bosch service and they said us to come two weeks later because they donīt have any free appointment. I totaly came out and shouted to the persn at the phone.
So he was here after just one week. But he was really unfriendy that I chucked out the technican.

And the problem, for the dishwasher being broken, was just a bit of dirt in the pump :D:D:D:D

Yea I had shocking service from Bosch, took them 3 weeks to get a new motor for the machine I had.

Miele on the otherhand were amazing when I had trouble with an electrobrush I had bought.

Jon.....the update sounds very interesting and how fun, like having a new machine to learn all about!

Hey Jon,

Glad u like the update. Its available on a number of different models. This may help your rinsing when your sister uses it. Don't you follow the dispensing recommendation on the display. Maybe you should teach your sister to follow it. So now you have everybody's dream in a new Miele. Higher water levels, improved rinsing and spinning.
No other company builds their electronics to be so flexible!
Cheers
Rod

BTW I have got a W 5949 WPS Liquid wash. Will post some pics and let you know how it works. It may have the same update available. We'll see.
Updated the dishwasher too. Now have the G 2834 SCi. Wow its fast! Hot water hook up and 1h15min for the Sensor wash programme.

Cheers guys... yes I'm still very impressed at the service I received. Makes a refreshing change to some companies I've used this year, The Tech Guys, read PC World, took over a month for a simple repair on a laptop, and weren't interested at all whenever I rang up (and of course we have our very own Matt to thank for that, one drink too many on his part hehe =p).

Lol Matt... you know one of them is in storage ready for when I move in with the better half after Christmas =D.

Rod, nice to see you, it's been a few years since we've spoke. We don't use the recommendation on the display, we mainly use tablets. My sister can just about manage to switch the machine on and press start, getting her to press anymore buttons would just confuse her lol. Would the update also apply to my W2652 do you know? If so I'm thinking of asking them to update it when I get it installed when I move into my new place. Would love to buy a Miele dryer and dishwasher for teh new place, but with budget restraints probably going to have to make do with Indesit or something in the new place for the time being lol.

Dazza... kettles on all the time here as you know =D get your arse over!

Jon

Ohhhhh Bitch!

You're gonna get it now! :P

I'm trying to figure out how i can slip that Miele out from under your nose, I don't think I can sneak it under my jumper, hehe.

Don't you start moaning Chris, I have offered you plenty of opportunities to come and do your laundry properly =p

Lincoln seems to be the place to get your wash clean, what with the array of Miele, vintage Hoover, Zanussi and AEG machines :-)

Do you reckon we can get though those airport scanners with large amounts of white powder?

Another update I just noticed is the out of balance routine..

Before the update, if the load was unbalanced it would just spin at the maximum safe speed (usually about 900rpm), which meant that you would have to respin the load. It limited the speed on the final spin the other day to 400rpm, and being impatient thinking that it was up to it's usual trick I reset it to the seperate spin cycle. However, today the same thing happened, however, it spun the load at about 400rpm for about half a minute, slowed down, tumbled both ways, then redistributed again and the load was pretty much perfect and it spun right up to 1400rpm as per usual. A much much better way of dealing with imbalances - I presume the 400rpm short spin spins out any excess water out of the load making it easier to balance.

Still very impressed!

Jon

The Updates sound fantastic! Our 3922's almost a year and a half old already, and I really do love it! I'm always really facinated at how my washer, my neighbours and Jon's have always worked in quite different ways, despite being the same model!

I think it shows Miele really do keep trying to get the best performance out of their machines with the varying programming! After hearing about these updates I really am thinking about having ours updated!, even if it does cost me, I think its really worth it personally! :D

Interesting update. Perhaps I should get my W715 updated...

Sounds like uncle Jonathan is stimulating interest in washing machines!

BTW, get an energy saving bulb, much better than a 100 Watts one. At least when the 100 Watts ones are still available.

Minimum Iron / Skippin' cycle steps

Hi guys,
my novotronic W844 five minutes before the M.I. cooldown switches from normal (or suds-reducing) cadence to wool cadence. Do you know what is that for ?

Jon, i'm curious about the W3922 .... I wonder if it's possible to "play" nearly like it had a mechanic timer, to skip cycle steps. Suppose you switch it to END while it's on cotton main wash. Does the rinse led flash then the spin one ?

I wish even domestic mieles were so flexible like the Little Giants. Check in the link to their manual how many changes one can operate by the setting/supervisor menu :-o

TIA
Carlo

Hi Carlo - ours just tumbles as normal on MI even thoughout the cooldown. However our short button is pretty much always permanently pressed in - oddly enough not in the picture I've taken lol - so I don't know if that affects things.

You can't skip cycle stages on our model - if you turn the dial to Stop it just cancels the cycle. However I've never really had any use for this, the cycles are fast enough when short is pressed :-)

Carlo,

The slower tumbling in the cool down is for calming the suds down. If you use too much detergent you will notice the layer of foam will get thinner.

thanks Louis, wasn't sure about it, as it does such way even with no suds at all anyway.

Updating the W715 ... uhmm, it is the very first novotronic model.... definitely a milestone. I wish it were possible to keep a back up copy of the original programmes, so that one can choose anyway and have the "historical" record too

I'd hit my toes with a hammer after discovering the update aborted the good old cotton cooldown. I miss it on the W844, can have it @ 75 and 95°C only *LOL*
