Very cool Dryer!

I think we talked about this dryer years ago on the club.
Was it manufactured by Rheem?
Impressive that it has an electronic pilot. I wonder if that is original.

Tom what do you know about this beauty?

Brent

...in that laundry room. I agree that is a neat dryer, but I know where there is one in use nearby actually. I don't recall if it's gas or not, but a neat machine. The one on CL is in great shape.

T-cub, yes I did see the posting thru this thread. It is a unique dryer and I think I remember seeing that other thread about it.

I just sent the seller an e-mail and I'll go look at it if it's still available, BUT the biggest problem I have right now is my truck is out if commission (clutch slave cylinder), so it will be rather difficult to bring it home!!

That is a very cool dryer and extremely rare dryer. It had no matching washing. I hope someone can save this.

No matching washer??

Hard to believe, that Rheem was mostly noted for their water heaters, yet they made no washer to use it with!

Very nice dryer, beautiful design. Indeed somebody should save this one.

As for not building a matching washer, I guess Rheem focussed on heat, not on water.

A little old lady

macboy91si's profile picture
The one nearby is in use by an old lady in her 80's, she has a round Maytag wringer (model?) with the red agitator and knob that she uses. Both the washer and dryer are in OK condition. The dryer is in a room by itself, and it's pretty dingy looking. I *THINK* it works. There is no room to hang clothes in this tiny apartment, so I assume that's why she even has a dryer to begin with.

I suspect that these dryers were marketed more through the gas companies rather than through appliance stores. My grandmother had this dryer paired with a Whirlpool washer with the button lid release which comes up on some of the PODs. The left pink square on the backsplash was a high/low pushbutton switch with pilot lights behind. The right square was a timer (clockwork...tick tick tick). The exhaust was behind the grille on the center back of the backsplash---vented straight out the back up at the top of the dryer. I suspect that she got this not before 1953, when they moved from Chicago out to the suburbs.

Electric ignition GAS DRYERS

combo52's profile picture
Almost all early gas dryers had electric ignition. In-fact most early manual defrost referators and window ACs and some early automatic washers were very energy effenctent they would earn an ENERGY STAR rating if on the market today.
