First thing in order is a New Plug. Nearly crumbled in my hand. But Thank you Robert,,, The Brake works just fine as you told me about spinning the tub. I can't seem to figure out how you open that "Door" on the Back of the Machine. and That hose that runs up to (I'm Guessing) the fill flume. Does that need to come off ? I'm sort of nervous about removing anything until I have some guidence. Thanks Unimatic Experts. Any scans or previous posts would be greatly appreciated. Going back out to do some detailing. |

I have to go out in the garage and just make sure I am not dreaming this. Today is new hoses and plug day. Hopefully I can do a couple of tests. Thanks for the Compliments and Good Wishes Everyone. Can anyone get me on the path to finding a New Dial and Parts Source ? I never ever thought I would be asking that question. |

Eddie, that Frigidaire washer is just fantastic! Talk about finding gold in what looks like dust!!! I am betting that the washer will start up and work like a charm. Don't forget to use a grounded supply cord to replace ol' crumbly there! If I didn't already mention this, try Modern Parts House in Parma, Ohio (216-661-6966 speak to Larry). Can't wait to see the electrical and water tests!! |

Paul... Thanks, But here on Cape Cod our Electrisical panel allows us to go up to 14 not 12. So, I can have the MobileMaid and the 1-18 and still have the ShowTime Rotisserie Plugged in too, That equals 14 as I have a Pork Roast in and in hasn't blown the generator yet.LOL And Lisa is still waiting in the rain for some eggs from Alice. ROFLMAO !!! Ben, Thank you so much as I have to do this right. I don't want to toast anything and if you have the pics on changing out that plug... Obrigado (Thanks) . It's just so great of all the compliments and support from all you guys. This is the Crown Jewel. And I don't want anything to go awry. And Thanks Robert for this page. I can't imagine any of us would be pulled together if it was not for Automatic washer.org. This is probably one of the most peaceful pages left , that friends are helping each other making their dreams come a reality. Imagine,,, Finding a memory and it comes back to life to revisit. Thanks everyone for all your help. Eddie |

Eddie - I discovered that my photos of the change over weren't very helpful. So instead I've posted a copy of the WO-65-2 wiring diagram. I assume that you'll want to bi-pass the pesky lid switch. Here are the simple instructions: A. Wire the new black from the cord to the Motor protector: In purple I've drawn the new path of the new black wire. You'll unplug the black wire leading between the motor protector and the lid switch and plug the new black wire from the new cord to the motor protector. This will remove the lid switch from the circuit entirely and you can remove all wires from it. I've found that you can find new 'Douglas' connectors at your local ACE or Hardware store. They'll have blue insulators around them. B. Now - the more important part. The white wire from the new cord will need to go to the following: 1. Timer Motor 2. The white lead down to the motor trip solenoid 3. The white lead down to the water valves More than likely the wires up to the timer are still good so you should be able to solder a connection to that wire. Check to see what condition the wires are that lead from the timer down to the motor and the water valve. If they are still soft and are not brittle, you can continue to use those and wire straight into the two white leads. I took the new green ground lead and put a round connector on it and fastened it to one of the upper inspection cover screws. In the next post you'll see a photo of the WO-65 leaning on it's side, and you can see where I fastened the green grounding screw. Let us know if you need any more help. I've scanned and had Robert post a good deal of Frigidaire literature on the Service Manual section of the main page. There is a .pdf dedicated to the WO-65/WO-65-2 Unimatics. Breeze through that if you need further help, or go through Robert's copy of the Unimatic re-opperation manual, full of goodies on the transmission rebuild. Once you get it rewired, as Robert suggested in an earlier thread, put some hot water down the drain tube to get the carbon seal in the pump lubricated. I would rock the motor fan back and forth by hand to make sure everything is free before applying electricity. Plug it in and put it in the RINSE portion of the cycle. Let it pulsate for a few minutes, turn it off, and put it in spin to see how the bearing sounds. If you don't have a screaming Unimatic, and the pump seal is holding you may have a keeper on your hands! Congrats! The WO-65 washers are one of my favorites. Truly one of the most enjoy washers in my basement - by novices and washer lovers alike. Ben CLICK HERE TO GO TO swestoyz's LINK |

I'm sure you'll have it mint in no time. The help from Ben on the cord is fantastic. Ungrounded, mine should be replaced soon, and now thanks to you guys, I know how to do it. To inspire you to forge onward, here's a pic of your baby's twin. Your washtub is in WAY better condition than mine. Yours looks brand new!!! Do you have a theory about that or some info. |

So far before we see if there is anything wrong, I'm thinking about Coldspot66's theory. John said he had heard that alot of women who bought these machines were afraid of them. Used them briefly and then moved on. I didn't do anything to the tub except wipe it down with mild detergent and warm water. I put nothing on the Pulsator rubber either. The outer cabinet was sprayed down with Greased Lightening, Rinsed and Dried. I then used a series of Rubbing Compounds and Mother's Carnuba Wax. I'm off to Lowes to get some New Hoses, Clamps etc. So... If I gain anything today mechanically, I'll post it or start a New Thread. Thanks for writing. Eddie |

seems a perfect explanation and I'm envious that I didn't think of it myself. Imagine watching a WO-65-2 with the lid almost all the way open, lid switch not yet activated, witnessing the water all but disappear from the tub, listening to the roar of the hurling water, then watching in disbelief as the tub spins faster and faster till it "relaxes" at 1140 rpm's. It's 1952 (?), --still don't know the exact year of our babies-- the startled woman is 60 years old and she's used a wringer washer all her life; and now for her sixtieth birthday, her husband has bought her this machine from the future. Yes, I can see how a Unimatic could scare an old woman out of using it. And we washer folk wish we could dive right in and have to hold ourselves back from doing so. Here's my inferior tub interior. Wish I could get it to look like yours. So how did you make out today? |

Wow its just beautiful Eddy, congratulations 100 times over. Isn't that porcelain just amazing!!! Did you get the cord changed? To change the cord, undo all the old electrical tape and follow the black and white wires out of the cord. Those are where you need to connect the new cord's black and white wires. Connect the green wire of the new cord to a metal screw on the cabinet. After that just be sure to pour hot water down the drain hose to prime the pump seal. Look for leaks. |

Thanks Robert. Thanks Rick. Well, It's almost 4 AM and I have to get back on the road to NJ for about 3-4 days. I don't want to hit much traffic today. So As soon as I get back, I'll resume the start up procedure. Mike... use that 3M sponge/scrubby very wet and DO NOT use heavy pressure. I use it like wet sandpaper. Just the weight of your hand should do it. Everyone have a Nice Thanksgiving. Eddie This could be a dangerous trip. Me in new Jersey, Laptop, Craig's List, and an Empty truck. |
