It might be of interest if somebody is searching a new appliance:
I was having a look at Hoover Italia website and a big pop-up came up saying that if you buy a washing machine with inverter motor, a dishwasher with "pulse" motor or a no-frost fridge you can have a free warranty extension of 8 years on top of the standard warranty of two if you register by 31/dec.

The warranty covers the motors and service is guaranteed in 48 hours without any charge for calling out.

I remember there was a member here that had troubles with his Hoover/Candy machine motor burning; I'm sure that they've changed all the lineup if they're offering such a long warranty!

Hi this is a parts only warranty, they have been doing this for years.

So has Indesit / Hotpoint, still costs +£100 to call them out.

(that said in the trade Hoover frost free appliances are regarded so badly the ten year guarantee might be worth taking out).

Bertrum.....

I was interested to read your comment about Hoover frost free appliances - last year i was going to buy a Hoover Nextra frost free fridge freezer for my house as it was in stock in silver & my original choice, a Zanussi frost free one, was only in stock in white.

In the end i decided to just get the white version of the Zanussi, because whilst the Hoover fridge freezer felt as sturdy as the Zanussi, i was concerned about how flimsy the (slightly older design) silver Hoover diswasher felt (i was buying a dishwasher too, and wanted them both to match).

I went for a Zanussi Progress dishwasher in white in the end aswell. It isn't massively study feeling either, but id experienced good service from Zanussi appliances in the past but had no experience of Hoover stuff.

It's strange how they appear so confident to offer such long parts warranties, yet their appliances seem to fail so early.

Extended warranty

Be careful of extended warranties guys, in my view if the machine in question seems a lot more expensive then similar ones, you could just be paying for the warranty anyway, the case in question is my G.E. fridge freezer cost $3299.00 five years ago and came with complete five year warranty, from Kleenmaid,(now defunct here.),when I could have purchased a similar or possibly larger fridge from either Westinghouse, Samsung or L.G. for about half the price and with 2 year warranty.
I bought the G.E. because the size was about right,(although the deep freeze can be a lttle too small at times),and I like the brand and the features and I also quite stupidly fell for the Kleenamid advertising,"The very best you can buy".
I dare say in the end it is always the old rule, let the buyer beware.
Cheers.
Steve.

Candy ? No, thanks

Gabriele,

I am very suspicios with Candy. They have always been on the flimsy side.

If you check the italian washer forums you'll see it's flooded of complaints about :

- Indesit/Ariston , boards/bearings

- Whirlpool/Ignis/Bauknecht, mostly error codes - pc boards seem to be crap - and bearings

- Candy/Hoover motors bearings and boards

Zanussi have lots of complaints only about the fully integrated dishwashers Rex XX61 / XX63 series, indeed they were are cheaply made e.g. just one pump for both spraying and draining and flimsy boards.

IMHO 600 to 900 euro for a TOL 1600 rpm inverter Electrolux/Hoover/LG/BSH/Whirlpool/Indesit washer are wasted money, their build quality is the same of the 200 euro BOL models. For the same amount of money one can afford a BOL miele. For sure it has 1200 rpm only, but it will outlast those machines

Expecially AEG, Hoover and partly Bosch/Siemens keep on ovepricing. They rely on the nice reputation they got on good old times when they indeed made tank build appliances.

Do agree with Liam, those long term warranties sound strange
