She could use a replacement bleach cup. She also has the brush lint filter. The tub cover is metal.

The rest of the story...

The cabinet is in good shape with no dings or dents. There are scuffs in the paint on the sides but nothing major. I do think it will need bearings. She does spin like a champ but rumbles while doing so. No rust to speak of anywhereThis machine really doesn't fit in my collection so I really would love for this little one to find a loving home. With some tlc, I think she'll be a strong runner for years to come. If anyone can provide such a home, please drop me an email. Please help me avoid this one going to appliance oblivionRCD

Boy does that bring back memories. I love the timer dial on this one better than the ones from the 80's that were painted on. Our first Whirlpool had the same type of filter but no bleach dispenser it was either a 72 or 73 model an 18 pound machine. One of the best washers I've ever used.

This is one of those which shifts from normal to gentle agitation on the PP cycle at the 6 minute increment and the rinse is also gentle.

the open waterfall filter and the way you display your finds as if they were brand new in a showroom. I bet the machines love the respect you show themI can't tell if the tub is the big one, and I think your new find has the double cooldown on the PP cycle--a nice luxurious "gas guzzler.Thank You.

I believe this is the series (although the subject washer might be a little older) that unseated the center dial Maytag from Consumer Reports' top spot around 1975 or soGood to see it doesn't have the awful "bed of nails" lint filterBeautiful machine. I hope it finds a good home. I'll never understand why people get rid of perfectly good things like this. They'll never be able to replace it with anything new of equal build quality.

launderess's profile picture
Watch what you say about those "bed of nails" filters! *LOLAfter growing up with that darn (and IMHO filty)brush filter thing, the bed of nails is a walk in the parkTrick is to clean the thing when it is wet. A simple gentle but firm slap against something will disloge the gunk, and one is good to goL.

Launderess, dear, my Mama's solution to the "filthy" filter was a comb kept in a glass next to the washer. Kept it fresh as a daisy.

Beautiful Whirlpool. You don't see many with the manual filter and bleach dispenser. Thanks for sharing the video with us. I loved the shot of the filter with the brush removed. My grandmother had a 1966 24 inch model with the partial console which I got to watch operate only once, and watching the water rush past through the filter with the brush removed was my favorite moment. I hope it finds a good homeHave a good one

That's absolutely amazing! I would love to give it a "forever home", but am unable to ship currently. (reserves are low) I love it! My mother's best friend had the very same one, except the agitator was black and there was no manual lint filter - OH and it was a Sudsmiser...

Newer than 60's

This washer is from the early to mid 70's. It has a 70's style instrument panel, and a white agitator. Most or all of the 60's models had black agitators.

LVA is the 1970 model year. The serial # would pin the exact manufacture date.

Agitator question...

jons1077's profile picture
What size agitator will fit the smaller capacity machines? I'd love to get different Whirlpool and Kenmore agitators to play with sometime.

Jon Unless you're working with a rare super-tall centerpost 196?-1973 large capacity machine, ALL the belt-drive agitators will fit in all the machines. The Straight-Vane, the various Roto-Swirls, the Vari-Flex, the Roto-Flex, and the two Whirlpool Surgilators are all interchangeable and meant to be used in standard capacity tubs. The early bakelite agitators will require drive-blocks to be installed in newer machines. The Penta-Vane, the Penta-Swirl, the large Surgilator, and the Double-Duty Surgilator are also all interchangeable in the large capacity machines. These will fit in a standard tub machine (they look majorly funky). A Penta-Vane in a standard tub though is beyond amusing. Putting a standard agitator into a large machine can be done also, but high water levels can go way too far up the neck of the agitator in the largest machinesThe Dual-Action's base is the same in both capacities, but they use different augers for the two capacities. So, you can basically put anything into anything, provided you're not dealing with the elusive tallest post modelsG

That's very interesting to know. I'll have to keep my eye open for some different agitators then. I'd love to get an older surgilator and definitely a rotoswirl. The machine is a beast with the vari-flex already! Would be fun to play!

Did you see the agitator in Fred's new find. Is the a Pentaflex, and is it interchangeable as well? It, along with the Vari-flex, is my favorite agitator, a tie actually. When you look at the pic, it seems as if there should be yet another "flex" making six altogether. What, dear friend, am I missing?

I know that this is an old post and this machine has long been claimed.

I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get one of these for my collection. My grandma had this exact machine in avacado. I would like to find one in working condition near me.

Thanks in advance,
Jesse

What I am looking for is an older whirlpool washer with the brush filter. I just mean that I am looking for an older whirlpool with that filter and simpler controls like this one has.

Someone say Whirlpool?

Ya mean like this one? Doesn't have the brush filter. Complete, unchecked, figure out a way to get it, and it's yours. Can't do any better than that!

That one looks like it but I really need one with the filter because I have a lot of dog hair and lint to deal with.

Most of my laundry dries outside on the line.

The brush filter is more of a gimmick/entertaining than anything. The magic clean filter in the Whirlpool Kenny posted is a much better option, however regardless of the filter there will always be some pet hair left over.

I agree with Ben about pet hair and the brush filter.

With a dog the size of our Canyon, there's lots of hair to remove from everything we wash and the '66 Inglis filter doesn't quite get it all.   So far the best dog hair removal has been with the '59 Frigidaire using a warm overflow rinse.

I know that the filter would not get all of it, but I am used to having a filter to clean and I would really like to have the brush filter, as that is what I remember from the first 7 years of doing laundry with my grandma.
