The washer has a strong yet quiet agitation. Really moved the towels... Shot a little video of the wash and the filter operation Title: "1960's Whirlpool Washer With SuperSurgilator Washing" CLICK HERE TO GO TO redcarpetdrew's LINK |

The cabinet is in good shape with no dings or dents. There are scuffs in the paint on the sides but nothing major. I do think it will need bearings. She does spin like a champ but rumbles while doing so. No rust to speak of anywhere This machine really doesn't fit in my collection so I really would love for this little one to find a loving home. With some tlc, I think she'll be a strong runner for years to come. If anyone can provide such a home, please drop me an email. Please help me avoid this one going to appliance oblivion RCD |

I believe this is the series (although the subject washer might be a little older) that unseated the center dial Maytag from Consumer Reports' top spot around 1975 or so Good to see it doesn't have the awful "bed of nails" lint filter Beautiful machine. I hope it finds a good home. I'll never understand why people get rid of perfectly good things like this. They'll never be able to replace it with anything new of equal build quality. |

Watch what you say about those "bed of nails" filters! *LOL After growing up with that darn (and IMHO filty)brush filter thing, the bed of nails is a walk in the park Trick is to clean the thing when it is wet. A simple gentle but firm slap against something will disloge the gunk, and one is good to go L. |

Launderess, dear, my Mama's solution to the "filthy" filter was a comb kept in a glass next to the washer. Kept it fresh as a daisy. |

This washer is from the early to mid 70's. It has a 70's style instrument panel, and a white agitator. Most or all of the 60's models had black agitators. |

Jon Unless you're working with a rare super-tall centerpost 196?-1973 large capacity machine, ALL the belt-drive agitators will fit in all the machines. The Straight-Vane, the various Roto-Swirls, the Vari-Flex, the Roto-Flex, and the two Whirlpool Surgilators are all interchangeable and meant to be used in standard capacity tubs. The early bakelite agitators will require drive-blocks to be installed in newer machines. The Penta-Vane, the Penta-Swirl, the large Surgilator, and the Double-Duty Surgilator are also all interchangeable in the large capacity machines. These will fit in a standard tub machine (they look majorly funky). A Penta-Vane in a standard tub though is beyond amusing. Putting a standard agitator into a large machine can be done also, but high water levels can go way too far up the neck of the agitator in the largest machines The Dual-Action's base is the same in both capacities, but they use different augers for the two capacities. So, you can basically put anything into anything, provided you're not dealing with the elusive tallest post models G |

Did you see the agitator in Fred's new find. Is the a Pentaflex, and is it interchangeable as well? It, along with the Vari-flex, is my favorite agitator, a tie actually. When you look at the pic, it seems as if there should be yet another "flex" making six altogether. What, dear friend, am I missing?

I know that this is an old post and this machine has long been claimed. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get one of these for my collection. My grandma had this exact machine in avacado. I would like to find one in working condition near me. Thanks in advance, Jesse |

What I am looking for is an older whirlpool washer with the brush filter. I just mean that I am looking for an older whirlpool with that filter and simpler controls like this one has. |

Ya mean like this one? Doesn't have the brush filter. Complete, unchecked, figure out a way to get it, and it's yours. Can't do any better than that! |

That one looks like it but I really need one with the filter because I have a lot of dog hair and lint to deal with. Most of my laundry dries outside on the line. |

I agree with Ben about pet hair and the brush filter.
With a dog the size of our Canyon, there's lots of hair to remove from everything we wash and the '66 Inglis filter doesn't quite get it all. So far the best dog hair removal has been with the '59 Frigidaire using a warm overflow rinse.

I know that the filter would not get all of it, but I am used to having a filter to clean and I would really like to have the brush filter, as that is what I remember from the first 7 years of doing laundry with my grandma. |
