Well there i was thinking nothing coming in at work then i get a call from plymouth site, and this had come in, a month ago i had picked up the same machine from there, so maybe there is some one in plymouth who has a few of these and is slowly getting rid of them

This one is not in good visual condition, door trim is missing and from a very quick visual inspection most of the wires to the heater and thermostats have been removed........but never to let a Hoover go I got it on the way home tonight.

Also I have to go and look at an old Hotpoint dryer that sounds as if it matches the washer i got recently, silver control panel two buttons and a sprayed silver door surround coundt get the model number but it starts with 17540 possibley and it is called a superdry

So thats me lot ill let you all know how i get on

Gary

Hi handsome, hope it's cold enough for you. love the washing machine, really like the blue lettering, looks like it's in good condition. Why do you think the wires have been cut?

Post# 405086 , Reply# 4   1/10/2010 at 13:23 (5,190 days old) by bertrum ()

Hi
I would imaging the wires to the stat and the heater have been cut as the element was going down to earth and tripping the RCD.
Cutting the wires just to the element would cause the machine to not comlete the cycle as the timer would be waiting for the thermostat to cut in, hence the stat wires being cut as well.
Crude engineering but people do these things!, its more common than you think!.

ISSSS EFFIN FREEEEZIN at work, thermals, double socks, t-shirts sweat shirt, scarf, hat etc etc............an i am cold as fook.

Hello Richard, the wires havent been cut they have been disconected from various items on the drum rear plate, maybe the bearings are shot and they were going to attempt to replace them, thats the only reason i would disconnect them, dunno when i get time ill have a look, as it is, it can stay in the back of car until tomorrow then ill put in the garage as i have to go look at the dyrer ............

Hope you are well
Gary

Sounds like just random wires could have been removed then.
Be carefull when putting them back, fixing these wiring faults can be tricky!, getting a wiring diagram may be hard to find after all these years.

How do Gary.

What is it with the Dual Spins, eh! Thats two have surfaced in as many months and the last square door 800, that came into collectors hands, before that was the Dual spin A3256 (although was smashed to smithereens!).

That facia looks in great condition - very clean and scratchless.

Whatever you decide to do with it, a great catch.

To the Hotpoint dryer:

reverse the 5 and the 4 in your model number and you have got the matching dryer to your Hotpoint 18370.
The 17450 was indeed a 'Super Dryer' - piccies attached below.

Cheers.
Paul

Well Paul thanks for rescuing me on the subject of model numbers.

Hoover 800

as I thought some one has attempted to change the bearings, there is no pulley and most of the tub bolts are missing, i might break this one up, there is a lot of rust underneath aswell..........ROOM is as always the deciding factor.

Plus i have just picked up the lovely Hotpoint dryer which as you confirmed Paul matches the washer, and it like the washer is in excellent visual condition, so that can stay (am i going all Hotpointy???.......nah) but i do like these early ones. NOW I want TWO bloody chrome doors :-)

Anyways

Fots of both machines attached and a special picture of my local Hoover/Hotpoint salesman

It figures that the younger Hoover would be more rusty than the older Hotpoint....

Well all you need now are a Servis Superheat, a Supertwin or two and an automatic or seven and you will be all set :) Mind you, seeing what a jammy bu**er you are proving to be, no doubt you WILL turn up a couple of Servis top loading automatics - there will be sharp intakes of breath that day :)

And does the BSR indicate another restoration on the stereo (I would hesitate to call it Hi Fi) front too?

ALISTAIR
Jammy B..ger..........yeah standin outside working in the freezin snow hmmm yup then i am a jammy b..ger :-).........the BSR/Ferguson record player nah it is too far gone to restore, its just banging around in the back of my car until i can be bothered to dump it at work, you see it is at least 25 yards from my car to the electrical skip and i just cant be asked........

Well i dont like to say this but Mike is always insisting that i let him give me all his Servis washers oh and his 3008 keymatic, but being the proud git I am I always refuse......

SERVIS SELECTRONIC
Alistair if i ever get one these machines there will be more than a sharp intake of breath more like the nashing of teeth and then a bloody stampede down here from up country!, of course i will have to barracade the garage and put armed guards around it

MIKE
Chrome doors I have it on good authority that all chrome doors up north are shite an not worth having ah well such is the qaulity of Hotpoint

Speak later lads
