Will this agitator work on my 2003 DD Whirlpool washer? I'd rather have this agitator over the "dual action"

I forgot to mention the website says this will fit a Whirlpool washer. I've just never seen one of these before.

It will fit, but rollover will be poor with a full load.

hmmmm...

aaronfitzy's profile picture
why would rollover be poor? wouldn't this be like having a maytag dependable care model? Or is it because of the tub being more narrow?

Hi Aron, glad you've asked as I've often wondered if I could do it with my Whirlpool DD. My Aunt in Salt Lake City had the same agitator as the one in the picture in her Design 2000 whirlpool and after every wash would lift the barrel off and clean the little filter ring.

It looks like that is the version for the Whirlpool DD portables. $71.xx is kinda high for such a small agitator. I will look in a few days to see if I have one from a parts machine. If I do you are welcome to it.

I would image it would function like this video...short agitation arc probably wouldn't result in good turnover with heavy loads.

What Dan's video shows is a good agitator....but the better version of this style is the gray one with the bigger vanes, for a short stroke and the super capacity tub, this one works best at moving clothes, someone around here has to have a spare

I have had one experience with the 2 piece agitator, in a Florida condo. The agitator was evidently broken prior to our visit, it's barrel came off in every spin, nothing was harmed, just strange and aggravating. alr2903

Actually, the DD straight vane is not too bad. I used one in my Whirlpool Gold DD that has a 3.2 cu. ft. tub and it washed and cleaned 15 large towels, some hand towels and washcloths.

The "rollover" was DEFINITELY slower but, it circulated the entire washload.
Also, it sounds like the 2-piece agitator wasn't screw together.

I tried to find the DD 2-piece straight-vane that had THESE "flex-vanes" on the bottom but, was unsuccessful.

Well, I have a FLEX and a Straight vane. aaronfity, you can have one or the other, but not both. Here is the Straight.

Here is the FLEX, this version is found in the full size DD models and not the portables. I don't have the smaller FLEX that is found in the DD Portables. I must have given my last portable version away.

Can I take the STRAIGHT-Vane?

aaronfitzy,
Send me an email with your shipping info and we will go from there. You can find my email on my profile page.

scrubflex,
I need to keep at least one one piece agitator for DD machines in case the dogs go out in one of my other machines. Here is what I will do... there is a shop in town that I may be able to get you one for maybe $5, $10 dollars. Is it the flex that you really want? I will see what the shop has. Maybe I can find both. They have lots of these machines sitting out back. I will see what I can find on Tuesday.

Before that agitator goes out for shipping, please post part number. I've been looking for that agitator for a long, long time! Thanks.

Part Number...

aaronfitzy's profile picture
If your referring to the part number on the flex vane agitator that I posted in the very first comment, it is 387838. I went onto searspartsdirect.com and searched the part number and it comes up with an agitator with no pic. I'm assuming its the flex vane, also cheaper on the Sears site at $58 bucks.

Here is the Straight

supremewhirlpool, I have the one-piece straight-vane in gray and white. Can we trade?
I want get rid of them so, I'll trade both of them for the one.

All I want is the (1st pic) 2-piece straight-vane agitator.

It is 2-pieced, right?
Two screws to attached the upper to the lower part.

Harry

flex-vane

The agitator is called the "Heavy Duty Super Surgilator Agitator" which has 4 straight, 4 wavy vanes and 4 flex-vanes. You can use it with super and large capacity washers.

The other one was made for super capacities...Heavy Duty Super SURGILATOR Agitator...5 wavy, 5 straight and 5 flex vanes.

Scrubflex,
Yes, it is a 2-piece agitator with 2 hex screws that secure the top part to the bottom part. I did not realize that there were 2-piece and one-piece versions. What is the difference between the two? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

scrubflex,
I just sent you an email.

The flex vanes are different on the one-piece design. Here is the one-piece in white

one-piece

this is it in gray... And I prefer your style, with the "triangular shaped " flex vane instead.

Oh ok, I remember those. In fact that gray one is found in the Galaxy machines.

Darn it...now I'm wanting to swap out my WP agitator for the heck of it. Wonder where I could find a blue/turqoise agitator (like KitchenAid had?) ... was there ever a turquoise straight vane? I have a "Super Capacity Plus"...which would I use?

If you're going parts-scavenging, would you please let me know if you find a regular capacity WP/KM Belt Drive inner tub with the tall centerpost and no rust? I'm looking for one for my 1972 Lady Kenmore (That one has a huge chunk of porcelain missing and lots of rust). I also have some PC parts if you want them. Also, I'm interested in pretty much any WP/KM belt drive agitators. Bonus points if it's a gold Super Roto Swirl.

Thanks and enjoy the 3-day weekend,
Dave

Dave,
Usually when this shop gets BD machines, they don't fix them anymore and they throw them out. Hopefully when I get there, they have not sent their throwaways to scrap.
