Baja, he had some incredible claims, but i guess, "once you have been burned". I remain bitter with Amana and know WP absorbed them. I understand this was a builder supply deal, my late father alway's said "never buy all new appliances at one time, they will all breakdown at the same time". alr2903

Not good!

Why was this person washing lighters, coins, keys etc? Do they not empty pockets etc before they put laundry into the machine????

I was thinking that myself. Also with the glass in the dishwasher. Mine stopped because of that but I didn't blame the machine! I found the broken glass in the cupboard later that day. I'd rather it stopped than damage the pump!

Fair enough though, I guess the rest are G.E.'s fault!

Friends dont let friends buy G.E.

~However, based on the salesman’s glowing recommendation of your brand, I purchased entirely from the GE line. He said that they had gotten nothing but “great reviews” by everyone who was using them.

In response to this:
1- get a mind of your own.
2- do your own research
3- if you MUST follow herd as you FRIENDS what they did/have/bought.
4- Never ever ever listen to a salesperson. Well maybe ONLY if you have a relationship with one who is not full of s- - - -.
5- Take care of your appliances and they will repsect you right back.

FIRST MISTAKE. "Blatant salemanship" can be shortened to be called B.S. People: their purpose is to push product while at the same time lining their pockets with commission. One NEVER believes a salesperson EVER, EVER , EVER. Period, end of story.

When I worked for SEARS as one of these snakes, er..salespepople... they offered us increases in commission rates on the upper-end models (so you win by selling something with a greter price-tag and again by a greater (higher) percentage on the commission rate). Basically there were sales/discount to customers that varied week-to-week but also there were "incentives" to sales staff of various temporary increases in rates for pushing specific products.

I'd say appliance buying is like managing an investment portfolo. Diversify your risk; don't put all of your eggs in one baket. Buy different brands. If you are OCD and want only one name-brand badge in your haouse, go to Sears and buy their brand. "Underneath" that badge is is many different mannies who supply their appliances.

When I had my house not long ago, it began "mysteriously" filling up with GE appliances. Had only one issue with a new DW that was defective from the get-go. Tre was no way the factory could have found the defect without running a full wash and dry cycle.

*-I got a GE dryer becuse the drum was SS. They also have a safety switch that turns off the dryer should the belt pop.
*-Bought a GE top-load washer to match it for the purpose of leaving it behind when the house was sold.
*-Got a GE Triton DW for the basement Kitchen for $75 NEW at Homo Depot. It was a dusty floor sample
*- Bought a second DW to replace my new KA tall-tub (new engineering at the time) that left yibbles and bits everywhere.

Don't know how, but thet just crept in all by themselves, LOL

I agree with Matt

what are lighters doing in the laundry?? That GE FL is the same machine as my Gibson which has been running in a rental for 10 years now successfully. I think the truth lies somewhere between the salesman, and appliance abuse at home.

when I think of it now I shudder!

My tenant came down one day and said the dryer was taking a long time to dry.
So the next Sat I went upstairs to check it out.
This is what I found:
They kept the dirty laundry piled half way up the front of the dryer , result no air could get to the intake.
Next they had piled half way up the back of the machine between the wall and the back of the dryer old clothes, so the weight of them had severed the out-take duct in two. Clothes had fallen into the duct comletely blocking it and were damp and moldy. So no air was getting OUT of the dryer.
Can you imagine the fire hazard?? Can you imagine the lack of common sense??
Appliance abuse is everywhere!

Hmmm...I was just thinking the other day how much better my countertop GE microwave (TOL) at the condo is than my TOL over the range Whirlpool. The Whirlpool microwave and Whirlpool Gold range have been great disappointments. The microwave takes longer to heat than any other I've used @ 1100 watts...exceeding even the package directions on most foods!

The range top (metal/porcelin area) easily chipped and the glass top is HORRIBLE to keep clean. A basic Kenmore that I had previous to the WP was a snap to keep the glass clean. The WP has "Schott Ceran" glass top on it and I have to factor in a 30 minute clean up after each and every meal. Some sugar type of liquid splattered on time and I STILL have remnants of it--even though it was cleaned properly. :(

OK, I feel better now. Now where did I put that glass scrapper...

Sounds like...

Someone is blaming GE for their own lack of common sense. And clearly, those machines have suffered some abuse from day one. How can you blame a dishwasher for broken glass in the pump? Don't you look in the bottom of the machine to collect all the broken pieces when you find a broken glass. Perhaps if you loaded the machine properly, you wouldn't suffer broken dishware.

Shame on that homeowner.

I expect she/he will eventually pen a similar letter to the Samsung Service Relations Manager for their shortcomings.

Stupid,stupid,stupid

Let this lady go out and spend $3000 on Samsung laundry equipment, her stupidity will result in the same problems only with larger repair bills. Who the hell leaves lighters in their pockets w/o checking, don't you realize that they are missing? Empty your pockets....Sorry for the rant I haven't taken my Paxil yet.

I realize that most american (ha) brands are not made like they use to be, but I think there was alot of abuse goin on. My Sister and Brother in law built a home about 5 years ago, and installed GE Profile appliances in the kitchen. They, to this day, have never had a problem with them. I am not saying there is not such a thing as a lemon, but all brands have them. I think he or she needs laundry sorting 101.I will now retire my soap box for the day.

GE Appliances

I agree. GE Appliances can be a hit or miss prospect. I think if you by near top of the line, you might be better off. Some of their cheaper models seriously are not worth fixing even with a minor repair. I used to be a huge GE dishwasher fan. Right up until the moment I installed my first kitchenaid. GE just didn't have a chance.

I wish these manufacturers would get away from so much plastic in their machines.

Bad customers not bad service.

laundromat's profile picture
1.) ALL POCKETS OF ANY KIND SHOULD BE CHECKED AND EMPTIED PRIOR TO LOADING THEM INTO THE WASHER AND/OR DRYER
2.)IF THE DRYER IS OVERHEATING,MAYBE THE EXHAUST HOSE IS GOING UP TOO FAR,MAYBE TO THE ROOF AND THE WATER THAT ACCUMULATES VIA CONDENSATION CAUSES IT TO DRAIN DOWN BACK INTO THE DRYER AND CAUSE A STEAM VACUUM THAT CAN OVERHEAT AND RUIN THE DRYER.IF A DRYER IS IN A GARAGE OR HAS A COMON WALL WITH IT,IT CAN BE VENTED DIRECTLY OUT TO THE GARAGE.
3.)THE DISHWASHER SHOULD ALWAYS BE LOADED PROPERLY AND PIECES LIKE STEMWARE AND GLASSES SHOULD BE SNUGLY PLACED SO THEY DON'T BREAK OR RATTLE TOGETHER.

The rest of these issues ARE lagit and should have been delt with and repairs done properly with no negativity or drama. But,unfortuneately, the failier to follow simple directions that come with every new appliance is more comon than not and they are usualy thrown away along with the packaging. As far as the dryer goes,I'll bet the ineficient venting by running the exhaust hose up 4 to 20 feet WILL cause the unit to overheat which will eventualy cause some serious issues including a severe fire that can burn down any nhouse , laundromat or Disney ship,Magic.
