I went to Smith's yesterday and saw a 1964 RCA Whirlpool 2 speed large capacity washer.I asked Smitty why he wasn't going to keep/sell it and he said it was just too old. I said nothing else and popped the top to look inside. There was some rust on the body interior but the ring as well as the tub were immaculate and no detergent build up or rust of any kind was there.I may pick it up this Friday. I asked them to hold it for me till next week when I can get the truck. He said fine. I'll keep you posted. I'm now going to attempt rebuilding this Kirby that just got handed to me by one of the two "Cousin" twins. He and his identical brother dig for bottles and get some real neat stuff!!!Their last name is Cousin.

That's awesome. Would love to see some pictures of a '64 large capacity.

WP only made 18 gallon standard cap & 16 gallon 24" washers in 1964 all thought they later called the 18 gallon LC and the 22-25 gallon machines super cap.

I know it isn't a Super capacity unit. The tub is the standard size. When I said large capacity,I was going by the settings on the water level selector.I don't think that there ever was an RCA Whirlpool washer or dryer with the Super capacity.I could be wrong thow.

would love to see pics - I think the '64s used a similar dial to my '62 which is also from the RCA era

Not real attractive.there is a box that holds the timer and water temp and level dials that has a low back splash about an inch high on the left and the opening where the filter brush goes is missing the brush. The tub is porcelain on steel with white specks.the Surgelator is all black pollypropoline.
