Hi All,

Just to update everyone, last I posted my Electrolux TOL Brand new steam-washer that leaked right out of the box had been fixed. And then fixed again. Finally the leak was found and eliminated. Since, I noticed that there were little bits of rubber, from the door gasket, all over the place. I found one day when I went to wipe out the gasket. I called, they sent service man and he consulted Electrolux/Frigidare who told him to replace the bellows(gasket) the inner and outter drum and the main bearing because the drum was not spinning true. At that point I called Atlantic Appliance where I bought them here in Wilmington NC and told them I wanted a replacement. They called Electrolux and Electrolux agreed and sent a replacment machine that was delivered this morning.

So, they guys bring it in, take my old one off the pedastal, put the new one on, get it into the laundry room 2 feet from where it needs to go and removed the shipping bolts. Hooked it up and asked if I wanted to try it before they left. I did. IT LEAKED just like the first one did. After a torrent of profanity that I think even suprised the delivery guys I told them to get it the F-bomb out of my house.

Now, my great sales guy from Atlantic called and told me that I have been as patient as anyone should have to be, what do I want to do.

I can try again with another Electrolux. I like it because it is beautiful blue, worked great when it did work, and you could turn the light on while it was going, love that. I also like the steam dryer function and especially that it hooks up to the water so you dont have to dick with filling up a container like other brands have. Maybe the third time could be the charm.

I can also get a refund and change to another brand that they carry. He was willing to give me a deal on Miele but the doors go the wrong way and can't be switched and my plumbing and vent hook up are all wrong for them. The have Samsung, Maytag, Whrilpool. They do not have LG, that would be my choice because of the great luck I had with my last pair.

What would you do? Take a chance on a third electrolux? Change to samsung? Give up and go to the laundry mat? I just so annoyed that I have to go thru this on top of everything else I have going on in my life right now.

Thanks, everyone's opinion appreciated.

Andy

Hi Andy. I would go for another Electrolux. I know the problems you are having is frustrating, but they will get it right for you as they did for me with my refirgerator. A lot of companies do not give this kind of customer service. I would complain to Electrolux directly. I did and they sent me a 200.00 check for my troubles and another time a 150.00 check . I have an LG and do not like it. Howver,,,,,I think I would go with the Miele even if the doors are not on the right side. My are on the wrong side, (too lazy to change), but I just slide a basket in front of it to load and unload.

Miele! Two huge swing-and-a-miss strikes is probably enough for a big vendor. You may end up with a bit of spaghetti behind the units if you have to cross the dryer vent and fill/drain lines, but it should be worth it.

From what I understand, the 484x washers are easier to program settings like Water+ than the 480x.

I agree with mysteryclock ... go for the Miele!

If you're not planning on moving soon, I think it'd be worth the fuss.

I know Miele does sell extensions for their water/drain hoses. It may not be as difficult as you may think to make one work in your space. The door swing may be your deal-breaker, I guess.

thinking about the miele

I guess I could criss cross with longer hoses and vent and gas line if I had to. But, other than the name, why miele? Also minneapolis people where can I go there to look at them, I'm on my way there for work right now.

Read some of the other posts about Miele...

..but for a start...

- Reliability
- quality of build
- longevity over time
- wash results

I have never heard a truly negative comment about Miele...but look on here and you will find them about:

- Whirlpool
- Maytag
- Samsung
- LG
- Electrolux
...and even Bosch of late (though only from one poster that I can find and I reckon if you can't stretch to Miele, go a 'proper' European sized Bosch)

...and as to where to see them in Minneapolis, ring Miele's number which I found freely available on their website to help you locate dealers....(800) 883-4537

Go for the Miele

I've been reading several different forums and it seems that the standard hose lengths will allow for the washer & dryer to be placved on the "wrong" side of all the connections so that the doors will open as if you had the real connecitoons in the wall where a Miele needs them.

I Vote For A Bosch:

I have a Friend who replaced their early 1990 GE Washer with a new 2008 Bosch. They have an Interior Laundry Room and the GE had gotten a leak somewhere and almost the whole house was Flooded. The new Bosch Washer has a Sensor in it that will detect any Leaks and Shut-Off the Water Supply, before too much damage. I don't know which Model Bosch Washer they bought, but I could find out real soon, if you are interested. I would also imagine that you could go onto the Bosch Site and find out which Model{s} have that feature as well. "BTW" they decided on this Model, after reading the Consumer's Report about this Model's Rating.

Peace and Kind Regards, Steve

Ordered the Miele pair

I had a chance to check out the Miele pair while I was in MSP this week and they are nice. Built very well. They actually gave me this literature book that was a training manual that showed comparisons between miele and other front loader brands. Everything was more heavy duty and better built. I ended up getting the W4842 and the T9822 gas dryer. Hopefully they will be in sometime next week and delivered and installed by the end of the week. I'm really looking forward to them now after all the nonsense with the electrolux.

I installed my washer and dryer opposite of the plumbing connections without any extensions or adapters. The hoses and cords all reached - even the gas line on the dryer.

Thanks golittlesport,

I ordered the extensions, my laundry pair are going to be in my laundry room and have these cabinets they are going to slide back into. So, in order to get them connected, the hoses have to be longer. If anyone has seen the "Kraftmaid Laundry Center" on display at Lowes this is what my cabinets look like. Attached a scan of the laundry design. I really like it because I'm going to gain so much storage in the laundry room. The two cabinets above the washer and dryer are full depth and huge. I got a call the other day that they are done and at the store, now all I need is my uncle who is going to come and help me install them in a couple weeks.
