I stumbled across this Kijiji ad. I've never seen a wringer here in North America that looked like this. I wish they had included a tub shot.

Guy , I haven't seen one in North America either, while the UK seems to brim with them. I totally love "Wringer Automatics." Alas, the closest we have here is the Lidded Square Maytag. But your find is the real thing.

Just look at all those important looking automatic-like controls. Wonder if it heats. It MUST.

Look at the enormous chrome wringer. What style! Wish they would have reset it before its photo debut.

Wait till Geoff and all the wonderful Aworg wringer men, women, and children see this.

Thanks for sharing, Guy.

Belanger here in Quebec made some square-tub wringer washers... This one has very square lines, so I would guess it is 70's model. Reminds me also of British models that some of the relatives across the pond had.

Coronado badged appliances were sold by Gambles stores in the US. In Canada, Macleods Hardware, and Stedman's Dept. Stores were the outlets. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Look at all the dials on that machine!

I remember Western Auto carrier a square "wringer automatic" in the 1960's. I believe it was branded "Wizard." I think it was a WCI/Franklin bult machine - it had a basic straight vane agitator with an underwater, agitator-mounted lint filter.

Hi Golittlesport, you are exactly correct Western Auto did sell, a machine with this cabinet appearance for several years. The last one i saw, was a couple of summers ago at a Garage sale, it was avocado. If i remember correctly the tub is square, white porcelain. alr2903

go all the way to the floor?

Maybe we'll find one!!! Wouldn't that be nice, or maybe Guy will get the one in the ad.

GUY, any more info? Why don't you go for it, Man?

Wouldn't it be fun to have that baby boiling away in the kitchen on a cold winter Saturday while cooking up some nice waffles, sausage, and coffee. Mmmmmmmm. Such comfort,

Wringer Washers

Ohh that washer looks a beauty, and the chrome wringer very impressive, now it looks very similar to the English Electric "Wash n Rinse" wringer washer from the 60`s...the controls where for motor, wash, heat & pump drain...the heater was 3kw.

Instructions where to wash all your clothes then wring them, stacking them on the sink drainer or in the bath...then you would hook the empty hose and pump out the washwater...fill the machine with clean water for rinsing and then reduce the fresh water coming in to the speed of the water being pumped out....then add the clothes until water was clear and wring!!

So it was a sort of continuous wring etc....now Jennifer, our next door neighbour had one and I used to be mesmerised watching her in action with the continuous rinse!!!...I had only ever seen relatives wash in the tub & wring and then rinse in the sink and ring again!!

I hope someone here gets the Coronado!!!

or at least go and see it, but it's 2 provinces over! It's located in Saskatoon. Love the switches, and I too wonder if there is a heater in it!

Great pics Mike... I had never seen an empty tub one before. I always wondered what the agitator was like. Thanks for posting them!
