Wow! That's one of the early poly-tub Hoovers, just when they moved from the rounded bodied, stainless versions. This is also a very rare color that was only around for a bit. Not to be confused with a different shade of turquoise that was introduced later. Kevin that's a great find. Does it actually use that type of pump you have pictured (old style)? If so that's even cooler, plus this style pump is the same as the ones from across the pond, I'm not sure when they switched over to the pinch-valve types so I'm curious. Cool other stuff too, but I'm a Hoover addict... -Tim |

How fun - that Hoover washer was one I found years ago here in Omaha. I think the guys in the UK helped to get the new pump to him (the other one with the leaky streaks is the bad one off the machine) That's the only one of those turquoise tub Hoovers I've ever seen, I found it in a second-hand shop in a friend's hometown of Tekemah, Nebraska. The Maytag "scarf" was actually a dishtowel that we made and gave out at one of our wash-ins here. I still have two huge bolts of that Maytag fabric - we cut a bunch and made those towels with my mother's serger. Let me know if you need the matching duvet, I have plenty of the stuff! ;-) That Frigidaire tester is for the Rollermatics - the different plug units match up to the different machines you might have encountered in the field. I have a couple of versions of this, also look rarely used. I would imagine the more experienced of repairmen didn't use them much - they could tell by "ear" and instinct what was wrong. |

Don't forget the perfect companion to a Hoover twinnie, is the oh so sleek Hoover portable dryer. You can wash and dry at the same time, but you'll end up drying more than washing. These are really neat, but you would need a 25A service to run them both from the same circuit, that dryer takes every bit of 15A.

Tim, on the pump, I'm pretty sure it does use the same pump, though I have not looked inside the machine. And thanks for posting the photo of yours, I really like it in green and that gold dryer is really cool (or hot…?? LOL)! I don't know much about these Hoovers, do you know, more or less what the age/year it might be? I remember seeing photos of other Hoovers with the metal (stainless?) interiors. I'll post a photo of the model/serial plate later. I did plug it in and the spinner spins and the impeller impels (LOL). I have not tried putting any water in it yet, but perhaps this weekend? We'll see as I need to work on the cars this weekend. Gansky, wow, that's pretty neat knowing (some of) the history of this little Hoover! I'll be sending you and e-mail about the Maytag cloth. Thanks for the info about this Frigidaire tester too, I've never seen one before this. Chester Mike, it's good to know the source for the UK parts connection! *wink* You asked how many machines now?? Um, WAY TOO MANY!!! LOL Richie, that sounds like a GREAT idea and quite fun too! But I can make that idea even better. I'll put the '59 Maytag E2L wringer at the front of the line and THEN it will be wash. wring, rinse, spin, rinse, spin… a 2nd rinse option, YAY! Launderess, ear plugs? Well I guess I'll find out just how loud it is once I replace the pump and belts. Please send them to Revvinkevin 123 Bright Garage Way, California, 90069 LOL I'll post more pix once I get it up and running with the new parts. Kevin |

It's one of the first series poly-tubs, I'd put it right at about 1970, maybe 69. The tubs in these are thicker than the newer "square-lids" of only a year later, I'm guessing it's a manufacturing/bottom line measure, make it then make it cheaper. The pump question is a better one, it probably uses the older dual-chamber suction pump like you showed on the machine, it's odd that would have failed, they seem to be much more durable than the pinch valve types and drain twice as fast. This is the "in-between" from the SS tubs and the multi-colored later ones. Be careful when running the spinner dry as the pump may not be turning with it. I've bought these from people that have run the things not knowing that the machine was even supposed to pump water while it was spinning and it can put a groove in the pump belt or burn it which on your machine I'm not sure if it's old style or new belt. There are 2 different belts for the pump, a blue marked one and a yellow/white marked one, the newer styles take the blue one if I'm not mistaken. All of the belts will look "bad" probably because they're elastic belts. They can flop quite a bit on the impeller pulley mainly but as long as it's turning, it's good. I have one in horrid shape and it still churns fine, flops a lot though. It should have a fixed motor and the elastic belt. The pump belt is the same way. The spinner belt is a small v-belt and rarely goes out. I have the same machine as Launderess and that old thing is a tank. Stainless tub and enough torque to wash a cat. It's ~40 years old and it still works on it's original pump, and belts. The drain hose was a different story and it's not a refined machine by any measure but it's durable. I look forward to more pics and info. -Tim |

Doesn't the Hoover one have a brushed spinner motor? I'd really like to see the internals of the machine while operating. It would be neat to see that Anyway, GONGRATS!!! |
