Ottawa is about an hour's drive from downtown Montreal - I have a GE very similar to this (in turquoise). I am not interested in it, but if anyone else might be and would like me to act as the go-between (I could go and un-install it, for example), please let me know.
Now, if it had been a 60s GE washer... LOL

Clean pristine door liner.

This was a great little dishwasher. It was everything a good BOL should have been. And it has the original silverware basket adapted from the pull-outs. No Power Shower,no cycle buttons, no energy savers, no bells, no whistles, just clean and dry dishes. Probably another housekeeper who thought it much easier and cheaper to wash the plates by hand and then stack them to dry in the machine.

Please thank her for the excellent pictures,
especially the cracker jack shot of the model plate(very hard to do); they made my morning. If only it was south of the border...

Cool dishwasher!

Almost the same model was available in 220V too, neighbours of us had that machine in white. I loved the doorhandle and I remember the blue interior as well.

the detergent dispenser cup...

...was very interesting to me when I was about 9 or 10- I would turn the control dial to watch it snap open, & then get sucked back closed..! Does this one have the overflow-float protector thingy on it? If not, when did that become standard?
This one is really pretty!

used that black pump body. i have 2 of the top loaders with that same pump, motor, amd spray arm but both mine have a white body pump housing.

the one i have here works great after a new motor was put in, the other is still in buffalo waiting for me to pick it up as soon as the weather gets nicer.

i did see that black pump housing when i visited larry in cleveland last year. had never seen it on an actual machine till this pic.

this machine looks great! too bad it's so far away. oh well.

I'm Not Sure If...

danemodsandy's profile picture
...This machine was absolutely the BOL, maybe one model up or something.

The reason I say that is my grandparents' house that they bought in '68 was built in '61 (if memory serves) and it still had all its original builder's-grade GE appliances in yellow. The DW did not have any trim at all at the top of the door, just that same cycle dial arrangement. It was very basic, but on the other hand, it was the first DW my grandparents had ever had, and they were thrilled with it, and used it for years, until it died.

Water Valve Question

geextrarinse's profile picture
My friend just moved into a 1960's apartment building in North Hollywood that has an all original kitchen in Turquoise. (Yes, It's Fabulous!) He has this exact dishwasher and it needs a water valve. Does anyone know if it can be retro fit with a new one or would I have to find another one like the original. It works fine in all other cases. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Matthew

I have been very successful in adapting a generic G.E. Water Valve part number WD15X93 to my 1949, 1950 and 1951 G.E. dishwashers. As of this moment (Thursday 2/18 6:22pm CST) there are no fewer than 7 of this part number valve listed on Ebay.

Absolute BOL's, and then the special models designed to fit underneath sinks(for many years)looked like this:

WATER VALVE REPLACEMENTS FOR ALMOST ALL DWS

combo52's profile picture
The KA inlet valve pt# 417000 will fit nearly all non tall tub machines {DWS BUILT BEFORE 2000]. A 1960s inlet valve also be rebuilt with a rebuild kit if you want to keep the machine original looking underneath, but the all new valve will be much more reliable.

That's IT. Never thought I'd see one of those again - they were too inexpensive to put much repair money into, and by the late '70s, I would think most of them got trashed.

Very cool that you had that pic - thanks!

Thanks Guys!

Thanks so much for the info - I'm going to check out my friends DW and figure it out - its great to know there are options. I would like to replace it for him as he wouldn't care as to that its original underneath, so long as it works!

I'll let you know of my progress!
