The threads for both the tub nut and the stem are reverse threads - meaning that you need to turn both clockwise to remove.
The allen head set screw is on the stem. I usually give the tub nut some heat, but haven't found that I've needed to do anything besides remove the set screw to remove the stem. Ben |

The spanner nut has no Allen screw. It's the stem seal that has this (newer stem seals come with a torx head screw). Yeah, righty loosey on the spanner nut and stem seal.
I had to cut off the last nut I tried to removed with a dremel. I also had to take a big ass grinder to split the stem seal on that machine too as it was rusted solidly in place (only to discover the tub bearing welded itself to the upper trans housing shaft). NOT an experience I want to relive, that's for sure!! |
